Are you a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist looking to make a lasting impact? In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting pupils with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism, helping to develop the essential communication skills they need to flourish and grow.

Each day kicks off with a collaborative morning briefing, where you will share insights and receive updates on the progress from our incredible team. From there, your day could involve conducting 1:1 therapy sessions, leading group activities, or working alongside teachers in the classroom to embed communication strategies. Every interaction is an opportunity to make a real difference.

You will also have the chance to mentor and supervise less experienced Speech and Language Therapists, sharing your expertise to elevate the quality of support we provide. Plus, you will contribute to developing training materials for team members and support university students on placement, helping to broaden the understanding of communication development across the team.

We understand how important it is for you to have protected time for your clinical development ensuring you have the support needed to give pupils the highest level of care. This is your opportunity to help children build confidence, reach their full potential, and make a lasting impact on their future.

A day in the life of a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist will involve:

  • Taking a trauma informed approach to clinical work. You will work with a small caseload of pupils who will have varying Learning, Communication, sensory processing, and social interaction needs. You will be able to do this through 1-2-1 support, classroom work and group sessions.
  • Taking an active role in the admissions process for new pupils, including helping to write pen portraits.
  • Working with the wider team to offer the best support to our pupils, including our onsite creative art therapists, teachers, and teaching assistants, and taking part in Multidisciplinary team meetings. This work may include supervisions, training, or taking part in projects related to the work we do.
  • Administration. Whilst doing all your great work with the pupils, we will need you to keep their records up to date and carry out all the administrative tasks you would expect to come with this role.

To be a successful Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will need:

  • A recognised Degree in Speech and Language Therapy, along with HCPC Registration and membership with the Royal College of Speech and Language.
  • At least 3 years of experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • The desire and confidence to run supervisions, training, and support both experienced and less experienced Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Good IT skills - We will train you on how to use our systems, but it would help if you had a working understanding of using Microsoft packages like Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.
  • A full driving licence. Whilst this role is based in a single location, there will be times that you need to attend meetings offsite which would require the use of a vehicle.

If you have experience working within the NHS, the best way for us to describe the level of experience needed for this role would be to consider it a Band 6 position. However, if you are a Band 5 with experience, we can offer a development pathway to help you progress to a Band 6 Specialist role.

In return for your time, you will get:

  • Holidays - You will work 42 weeks of the year during term time, but you will be paid annual leave to cover the remaining 5.6 weeks. (If you are part-time, you will get a Pro Rata amount based on your hours).
  • Pension scheme - Our pension scheme is based on you paying in 5%, and us adding 3%.
  • Learning & Development Opportunities - We provide comprehensive learning opportunities for team members to develop themselves.
  • Discounts - You will have access to brilliant discounts through the Blue Light Card and our own employee benefits platform.
  • Wellbeing Support - Your wellbeing is always our priority. You will have access to mental health and wellbeing support. On top of this, our therapies team offers a monthly confidential check in clinic, and group reflective practice sessions.
  • Cycle2Work - The cycle to work scheme enables you to buy a bicycle at a discounted rate.
  • DBS - As this role requires you to have an enhanced DBS carried out, we will cover this cost.
  • After 12 months service - You will also be eligible for our Medicash scheme which covers a wide range of medical, health and wellbeing expenses (Including immediate access to a GP!). You will get life assurance paid at x2 your annual salary.

Please note that as part of our safer recruitment processes, successful applicants will be subject to pre-employment checks including an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check, and online and social media checks, and reference validation.
