Job Title: General Manager
Reports to: Nova Instruments Division President
Position Summary
The General Manager will play a significant role in driving growth in scale and value by providing full P&L direction and oversight to the PISL and TD. The General Manager will have full accountability for all aspects of the Companies including manufacturing, engineering, product development, sales, marketing, finance, and customer service. Core responsibilities include driving product management, research and development, new product introduction, promotional initiatives, business development, operational excellence, employee engagement, customer satisfaction, sustainable growth, revenue, and EBITDA. This position is based in Warrington, UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Achieve the Companies’ annual Sales and EBITDA budgets, as approved by the Board;
- Develop a profound technical understanding of the Companies’ products, their competitiveness and their value proposition to their customers
- Work closely with the Companies’ local management team and Nova Instruments’ leadership to build and execute on a strategic plan that delivers sustainable and profitable growth and strengthens market presence;
- Prepare and implement comprehensive business plans to facilitate profitable organic growth by planning business development and product management activities and engineering projects;
- Review the Companies’ strategic positioning and product development roadmaps and determine future R&D projects and ensure on-time and on-budget completion of any R&D projects;
- Prepare, gain approval and monitor the implementation of the Companies’ annual budget and ensure that budgeted commitments are met;
- Manage the operating expenses and KPI’s, with an emphasis on inventory, gross margin, and EBITDA;
- Lead full implementation of policy deployment and daily management across the businesses. Rapidly introduce daily management disciplines in sales, marketing, customer service, repair, and engineering functions;
- Conduct talent assessment and enhance the management team’s capabilities and competence through mentoring and training, and necessary top-grading to ensure the Companies have the talent and capacity required to achieve its goals;
- Drive annual planning to develop annual operating plans and updated strategic plans;
- Lead and coach the Companies on the execution of the operating plans, including the cascade of daily management to the work cell level to achieve targets;
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with employees, distributors, customers, and the senior management team at the parent company;
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Experience, Skills and Education
Critical criteria include demonstrated success driving performance in an instrumentation/sensor business; driving new product introduction; and using a consultative and collaborative leadership style. The ideal candidate will have a high degree of energy and drive, demonstrated by a focus on measurable success. It is also important that the successful candidate has shown an ability to be resourceful and a quick learner outside the support of a big company environment.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience P&L responsibility of a R&D and manufacturing business, preferably within Non-Destructive Testing;
- Exemplary track record driving measurable results with a focus on revenue, EBITDA, and market share growth;
- Experience in managing hardware, firmware, software, and mechanical product development projects;
- Strong analytical skills to identify trends and/or anomalies in financial results and KPIs and derive appropriate corrective actions;
- Demonstrated ability to find, hire, develop and support key talent across the organization;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills; Concise communication style and an ability to communicate business insights is critical;
- Hands-on. The successful candidate should be effective in environments which are entrepreneurial in nature, quick moving, and in many cases require the direct efforts of the General Manager.
- BS in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electronic Engineering. MBA is a plus.
