Position Summary
The Electronic System Engineer is responsible for the design and development of electromechanical systems, control systems, and supporting technologies. This includes the implementation of embedded controls and feedback systems for Phoenix’s non-destructive testing (NDT) products, instruments, and accessories. This position acts as a key technical liaison between the sales, engineering, and production teams, supporting efforts to achieve annual revenue targets. The position will offer broad exposure and responsibility from concept design through to end-user applications. This position will be based at the Company’s facility in Warrington.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop innovative electronic and electrical solutions, including system-level schematic design, circuit design, component selection, and PCB schematic capture layout.
- Collaborate with mechanical designers to define housings, installation requirements, and cable routing.
- Review, improve, and consolidate existing designs to support cost-effective manufacturing across the full product range.
- Design, conduct, and document experiments where necessary to support design decisions.
- Develop and perform testing procedures and supporting peripherals.
- Testing, diagnosing, and fault finding of new and existing equipment.
- Provide technical support to clients.
- Work to tight project timescales and budgets.
- Produce documentation to support equipment assembly, operation, and maintenance in line with applicable standards.
- Coordinate subcontractors for manufacturing components.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
Experience, Skills, and Education
- Degree level qualification or equivalent in Electronic or Computer Systems Engineering.
- Knowledge of CE standards, testing, and documentation requirements.
- Programming in C/C++.
- Experience with Microsoft Visio, KiCAD, Git & STM32Cube.
- Strong knowledge of low voltage electrical and electronic technologies.
- Experience in mixed circuit design and PCB manufacturing.
- Experience with microcontrollers.
- Familiarity with basic communications protocols and standards RS232, RS485, SPI, I2C, UART.
- Confident use of laboratory equipment for debugging purposes.
- Good analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to customers and internal teams.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Customer-focused mindset with strong technical curiosity and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
