Reporting to the Ward & Outpatients Manager, the successful Healthcare Assistant will undertake the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Support Registered Nurses in the implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient.
  • Help promote and maintain a caring, supportive environment focused on meeting the needs of the patient/relatives/carer, working collaboratively with other departments to achieve this.
  • Look after the physical comfort of patients, for example helping them with activities of daily living.
  • Take basic observations such as blood pressure and temperature, height and weight, utilising the early warning score system as per hospital policy and escalating appropriately to the trained nurse.
  • Listen and talk to patients, helping them to feel supported and safe.
  • Assist with keeping the department clean and tidy, cleaning of equipment, adhering to infection prevention and control policy and hospital procedures at all times.
  • Keep supplies and equipment in order, assisting in the maintenance of stock levels.
  • Maintain contemporaneous patient records including patient pathways and the relevant IT reporting systems are up-to-date and accurate ensuring countersigned by a trained nurse.
  • Chaperone when required.
  • Participate in basic wound care management as required.
  • Deal with any patient/relative complaints at the time if possible, however escalating to appropriate member of staff if need be.

Qualifications

  • Minimum GCSE education or equivalent NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent preferred.

Experience

  • Ability to learn and develop Ward and/or Outpatient healthcare experience in a hospital environment.

Skills

  • Caring, patient and customer focused.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience in the private sector.
  • Competence in the following areas: phlebotomy, venepuncture and undertaking ECGs.
  • Enthusiasm for cross functional working within different departments.

Phoenix Hospital Group has 6 sites encompassing 2 London outpatient centres: 9 Harley Street and 25 Harley Street, and 4 hospitals: Weymouth Street Hospital (London), Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford (Essex), One Hatfield Hospital (Hertfordshire) and One Ashford Hospital (Kent). Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford is within easy reach of the centre of Chelmsford and is a 2 minute drive from the A12. Ample free parking is provided on site.
