Reporting to the Ward & Outpatients Manager, the successful Healthcare Assistant will undertake the following roles and responsibilities:
- Support Registered Nurses in the implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient.
- Help promote and maintain a caring, supportive environment focused on meeting the needs of the patient/relatives/carer, working collaboratively with other departments to achieve this.
- Look after the physical comfort of patients, for example helping them with activities of daily living.
- Take basic observations such as blood pressure and temperature, height and weight, utilising the early warning score system as per hospital policy and escalating appropriately to the trained nurse.
- Listen and talk to patients, helping them to feel supported and safe.
- Assist with keeping the department clean and tidy, cleaning of equipment, adhering to infection prevention and control policy and hospital procedures at all times.
- Keep supplies and equipment in order, assisting in the maintenance of stock levels.
- Maintain contemporaneous patient records including patient pathways and the relevant IT reporting systems are up-to-date and accurate ensuring countersigned by a trained nurse.
- Chaperone when required.
- Participate in basic wound care management as required.
- Deal with any patient/relative complaints at the time if possible, however escalating to appropriate member of staff if need be.
Qualifications
- Minimum GCSE education or equivalent NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent preferred.
Experience
- Ability to learn and develop Ward and/or Outpatient healthcare experience in a hospital environment.
Skills
- Caring, patient and customer focused.
- Basic computer skills.
- Experience in the private sector.
- Competence in the following areas: phlebotomy, venepuncture and undertaking ECGs.
- Enthusiasm for cross functional working within different departments.

Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford is within easy reach of the centre of Chelmsford and is a 2 minute drive from the A12. Ample free parking is provided on site.
