The Endoscopy Bank Nurse/ODP is responsible for providing high-quality, safe, and effective nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. The post holder will support the multidisciplinary endoscopy team in delivering excellent patient care before, during, and after procedures, while maintaining compliance with JAG standards, infection prevention policies, and Phoenix Health Solutions Ltd procedures. The role requires flexibility to work across various shifts to support service demand.
Main duties of the job:
- Deliver safe, compassionate, and patient-centred nursing care within the endoscopy environment.
- Assist in the admission, preparation, monitoring, and discharge of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
- Support clinicians during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and sigmoidoscopy where applicable.
- Ensure patient dignity, privacy, and comfort are maintained at all times.
- Monitor patients during conscious sedation and recovery, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Prepare and maintain endoscopy equipment and procedure rooms in accordance with infection prevention and decontamination standards.
- Accurately document patient care, observations, medications, and procedures in line with Phoenix Health Solutions policy and NMC/HCPC standards.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations including patient deterioration and resuscitation.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure smooth patient flow and efficient service delivery.
- Maintain stock levels and ensure clinical areas are clean, safe, and appropriately equipped.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities where required.
- Adhere to safeguarding, health and safety, COSHH, and manual handling policies.
- Maintain professional registration and demonstrate ongoing professional development.

- Provide nursing care across all stages of the patient pathway within endoscopy.
- Undertake patient assessments including baseline observations and risk assessments.
- Administer medications in accordance with local policies and competency requirements.
- Assist with specimen collection, labelling, and safe transfer to laboratories.
- Recognise and manage complications or adverse reactions during procedures.
- Ensure safe handling, cleaning, and storage of endoscopy equipment.
Communication:
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and carers regarding procedures and aftercare.
- Provide reassurance and emotional support to anxious patients.
- Liaise effectively with medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
