Here at Standard Life, we guide millions of people through some of life’s biggest decisions. We’re searching for a Senior Actuarial Technician who shares our commitment to putting customers first, aiming high and working together to join the ERM Production team
Who are we?
We’re Standard Life, a retirement specialist focused entirely on retirement savings and income. We champion the belief that everyone’s journey to and through retirement can be better, and for more than 200 years, we’ve been helping our customers plan and prepare for their financial futures.
Life today is increasingly complicated, uncertain and unpredictable. People move through different careers, face unexpected moments and navigate important choices. We offer our colleagues flexibility, trust and benefits that work for whatever life brings. In return we expect curiosity, connection, accountability and high standards. We make room for what matters - so you can bring your best, every day.
The role
You will form part of the ERM Production team within Open Production Modelling, part of the Actuarial Service Centre of Finance. The team is responsible for carrying out the BAU MI and valuation obligations of this asset class, as well as supporting onboarding and securitisation activities as and when they occur.
In this role you will be expected to work on the regular production of MI, VCTs, base valuation and quarterly reporting activities the team undertakes. You will work closely with the specialist lead to deliver these, and liaise closely with the ERM-focused review actuaries within the Retirement Solutions reporting segment to ensure timely deliveries for their review activities. You will also be responsible for carrying out and evidencing the key controls around all the EUCs/Tools/processes that the team maintains, to ensure safe reporting of the ERM business.
Throughout the role, you will be expected to operate within strict timescales and work in compliance with prescribed control standards including ensuring appropriate audit trails are maintained.
What are we looking for?
- Good understanding of actuarial processes, some actuarial modelling or capital experience desirable.
- Good understanding of the importance of following processes but also able to apply knowledge and own thinking to identify and make improvements.
- Strong communicator, communicating clearly and effectively ideas, information, plans, opinions and updates to internal stakeholders.
- Experience applying checking, reporting and auditing principles, and monitoring systems and services in order to identify risks.
- Good Excel/VBA/R skills with an ability to pick up new software quickly.
- No prior knowledge of the ERM asset class is required, but a desire to learn and a can-do attitude to tackling any learning curve is essential.
We want to hire the whole version of you.
We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels accepted and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If your experience looks different from what we’ve advertised and you believe that you can bring value to the role, we’d love to hear from you.
If you require any adjustments to the recruitment process, please let us know so we can help you to be at your best.
We’re reviewing applications as they come in, so apply early to avoid missing out.
