We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Policy Consultant in our People Policy team. We’ll be hosting a virtual open forum if you would like to hear more about this role and ask any questions.
Job Type: 9 month Fixed Term Contract
Location: Hybrid. This role could be based in either Edinburgh, Telford or Birmingham offices, with some time spent working from home.
Flexible working: All of our roles are open to part-time, job-share and other types of flexibility. We will discuss what is important to you and balancing this with business requirements during the recruitment process.

As an Employee Relations Consultant for Policy, you’ll be a trusted advisor responsible and accountable for all aspects of our employment policies and employment contracts. You’ll support our ambition by managing and maintaining our suite of our policies, ensuring they are legally compliant, aligned to regulatory requirements and leading edge.
- Manage and enhance our suite of employment policies and employment contracts, ensuring not only that these remain legally compliant and align to regulatory requirements (SMCR, employment legislation, FCA/PRA guidance) but they reflect our values, ambition and culture at Phoenix.
- Provide leadership, governance and advisory support on employment policies and contracts of employment to HR colleagues and the business, including those owned by other HR Centres of Excellence.
- Work with wider SME areas of HR to advise and embed continuous improvements to how our technology offerings support policy and legislative changes.
- Foster collaboration with key stakeholders, including HR Directors and HR Business Partners and work collaboratively across the business on exciting developments.
- Provide expert advice on the operation and assessment of the regulatory rules in ER conduct cases.
- Deliver education sessions on policy and processes and best practices.
- Monitor legislative changes, regulatory, societal and HR trends to proactively update stakeholders and evolve our offering accordingly.
You’ll partner closely with:
- People Leaders across the business
- HRD’s and HRBPs
- Other HR centres of excellence such as Reward and Talent Acquisition
- Key stakeholders across the business who collaborate or input into HR policies and contracts, including Group Tax, Health and Safety, Premises, IT, Risk and others.
- External providers including our preferred legal firm and outplacement support provision.
What are we looking for?
Essential Experience:
- Accustomed to working in businesses with a mature Employee Relations and policy agenda.
- Proven experience of developing and enhancing an HR policy proposition.
- Example of monitoring the legislative and political landscape in order to evolve our offering accordingly working alongside wider business SME functions and updating key stakeholders.
- Experience in policy and employment contract management and in providing technical and strategic advice, support and guidance on employee relations and policy matters to HR colleagues and the business.
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and its practical application in a commercial and regulatory environment.
