We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Public Relations Manager to join our Public Relations team.

Job Type: Permanent

Location: This role could be based in either our Edinburgh, Birmingham or London offices with time spent working in the office and at home.

Flexible working: All of our roles are open to part-time, job-share and other types of flexibility. We will discuss what is important to you and balancing this with business requirements during the recruitment process.

The role

Our growing Corporate Communications team works closely with our senior leaders and is part of a dynamic department that spans media relations, public affairs, social affairs, investor relations, sustainability, brand, and our longevity think tank Standard Life Centre for the Future of Retirement.

As a Public Relations Manager for Phoenix Group you will contribute to the development and implementation of a media programme to protect, grow and enhance our reputation as a purpose led business and a leading employer. You will be part of a team who will manage our newsroom and run well organised PR campaigns. You will be working closely with PR colleagues, our central sustainability team, asset management and our agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and delivering the ongoing PR strategy for our investment, climate and sustainability programme, working with colleagues and our agencies
  • Contributing to wider campaign and newsroom activity to establish Phoenix Group as a business committed to its investment and sustainability goals and ambitions, working closely with PR colleagues
  • Identifying proactive opportunities to build our brand and reputation with PR audiences, working with colleagues to develop and evolve our story
  • Identifying key internal stakeholders and developing strong relationships to support your activity
  • Helping to produce a range of written outputs including press releases, commentary, content packages and briefing notes
  • What are we looking for?

  • Excellent organisational skills, being able to manage competing priorities, and plan out activity on a forward-looking basis, whilst also managing immediate requests driven by external news agenda and business priorities.
  • Keen interest in the 24/7 news cycle and media landscape, with an understanding of how investment and sustainability activity within Phoenix can play into the news agenda.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to develop effective relationships across our organisation and with external stakeholders. Work with our wider team to provide good communications counsel to colleagues on important issues.
  • Excellent writing skills, and ability to turn complex information into something easily understandable and compelling. Experience may have been gained from prior experience writing reports, research papers, briefing notes, press releases etc.
  • Hands‑on PR and newsroom experience, with a track record of running well‑organised, impactful campaigns.
  • Financial services experience is essential
