HMP Wayland Senior Practitioner – Management Role

HMP Wayland has an exciting opportunity for someone eager to gain experience in a management role within the Recovery Inside prison service. We provide assessment and psychosocial support for men in custody who have drug and alcohol problems. Through one‑to‑ones and group sessions, the Phoenix Futures team delivers a therapeutic approach to treatment.

The Role

As a Senior Practitioner you will manage a small team of two substance misuse practitioners and a family support worker, while delivering services and managing a caseload of complex clients. The role is full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, on‑site at HMP Wayland.

About You

To join us you will need:

  • A passion for supporting and nurturing your small team
  • Desire to contribute to data management and workload management
  • Some management experience or training such as managing volunteers, sessional staff or supporting managers
  • Evidence of effective partnership working and the ability to network for the benefit of the client and service
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word and familiarity with database management systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Relevant experience working in health and social care, ideally within problematic substance use, mental health or another comparable field
  • Desire to work in collaboration with healthcare, mental health, community agencies and the prison service while adhering to security requirements

Other organisations may call this role Senior Recovery Worker, Senior Criminal Justice Worker or Senior Substance Misuse Recovery Worker.

The Service

HMP Wayland is a Category C Men’s prison near Griston, Norfolk. Our services focus on supporting those already sentenced and wanting to address substance misuse issues that have impacted their lives. We deliver person‑centred psycho‑social interventions on a 1‑to‑1 basis and in groups. Support is available after completing a comprehensive assessment and an individual care plan is implemented based on the client’s needs and risks.

The Service has around 15 staff and has been long‑established at Wayland since 2018. There is free parking on‑site.
