Location: Carmarthen Campus (UWTSD) – In-Person

Hours: Approximately 13 hours per week (Term-time only) – Possibility of additional hours in the local area

Contract Type: Flexible options – PAYE or Freelance / Self-Employed contract options available

Role Overview: We are seeking a fluent Welsh speaker to provide vital on-campus academic support for a student with hearing impairments. The student is studying for a degree in Welsh Language Education at the Carmarthen Campus. In this role, you will work approximately 13 hours per week during term times, attending live lectures and seminars on campus alongside the student to produce clear, accurate, and comprehensive notes in Welsh. This position is funded through the UK Government's Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) framework. We welcome applicants looking for either a standard PAYE contract or a Freelance arrangement. No prior note-taking experience is required, as we invest in your professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • On-Campus Attendance: Attend university lectures, seminars, and tutorials in person at the Carmarthen Campus.
  • Live Lecture Capture: Take high-quality, real-time academic notes in Welsh during classes.
  • Language Precision: Able to capture the linguistic, educational, and theoretical concepts accurately.
  • Information Structure: Organise notes clearly so they are structured, legible, and ready for the student's independent study.

Candidate Requirements

  • Language Skills: Outstanding written and spoken Welsh language skills (fluent or native level).
  • Location: Ability to reliably commute to the Carmarthen Campus for scheduled timetabled slots.
  • Academic Literacy: Ability to identify, understand, process, and use higher-education-level terminology quickly.
  • Reliability: Exceptional punctuality to ensure you are in the lecture hall before classes begin.
