Purpose of the role
The Knitwear Designer contributes to the design of the ready to wear collection by designing and creating innovative pieces with a strong fashion attitude in line with the creative direction. This is a 9 month maternity cover set to begin in May 2026.
Responsibilities
- Research relevant new trends and garment shapes
- Research and develop ideas and designs according to the brief
- Research into external and internal archives with respect for the integrity of the brand and intellectual property
- Prepare sketches, designs and mood boards with fresh creative ideas whilst keeping the customer in mind
- Submit designs to the manager for feedback; make necessary alterations and resubmit
- Prepare presentation cards and boards for meetings and fittings
- Work with the 3D Design team and Product Development team to develop samples and the collection
- Demonstrate passion and affinity with the brand aesthetic
- Drive innovation and creative thinking
- Support with guiding and coaching more junior members of the team
- Oversee the smooth running and organisation of the department
- Have good technical knowledge of knitwear and the construction of knitted garments to be able to launch with knitwear vendors and clearly communicate the designs
- Able to hand knit and domestic machine knit, from the early stages of swatches to a whole garment
- Working on 3D shapes and fitting of prototypes
Qualifications, Skills, Experience Required
- Relevant industry experience of 5-7 years in Knitwear design
- Degree level in Knitwear
- Proven ability to sketch
- Technical capability with ability to create mock-ups and work in 3D
- Understanding of yarn knowledge, their properties, their suitability for garments and ways in which they can be finished
- A unique creative voice with strong research, concept, creative and drawing skills
- In depth knowledge of fashion and apparel, knowledge of trends, the market, luxury brands and consumer
- Collaborative team player with strong initiative
- Flexible and adaptable
- Computer skills: Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate
