The Graduate Trainee will gain experience of the everyday running of a busy RTW design team in a fast-paced high end luxury design house. The Graduate Trainee provides support to the RTW team translating briefs into 3D pieces, making quick prototypes and preparing for presentations.
Responsibilities:
- Receive work and briefs from the design team and translate these ideas into 3D pieces with strong and ambitious design propositions.
- Researching inspiration for collections and developing unique and innovative shapes and energetic and emotional ideas from the brief.
- Draping and pattern cutting to generate new and innovative shapes and volumes.
- Producing quick, first 3D mock-ups to check fit and fabric.
- Producing prototypes and finishing samples in a timely manner for presentations.
- Amending patterns and altering garments as required.
- Supporting to ensure the studio archive is maintained and organised.
- General organisation of the department and support to the design team.
- Support with creating boards and preparing rails for key meetings.
Qualifications, Skills, Experience Required:
- MA/BA in design (MW or WW).
- Experience in a RTW design studio through work experience or previous internship.
- Clear understanding of the Phoebe Philo Ltd identity with an aligned taste level.
- Technical capability with ability to create mock-ups and work in 3D.
- Intermediate pattern cutting and stitching skills.
- Understanding of fabrics, their properties, their suitability for garments and ways in which they can be finished.
- Collaborative team player with strong initiative.
- High level of creativity and research skills.
- Flexible, agile, resilient and adaptable to the changing needs and schedule of a design studio.
- Collaborative, positive team player with strong initiative and a can-do attitude.
- Strong organisational skills to support the team on what is required for key meetings.
- Computer skills – proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator (+ InDesign).
