The Company: Phlux is an award-winning semiconductor scale-up company based in Sheffield, UK. The company has commercialised a breakthrough infrared sensor technology that will be at the heart of advanced driver safety features using LIDAR, ultra-fast low latency communication networks, and seeing the invisible with 3D imaging. The company has raised over £10M of investment to date, is generating revenue from product sales and currently employs 21 members of staff divided between Operations, Sales & Marketing, Engineering and Finance.

The Role: The successful applicant will join our operations team as we ramp production on our existing product whilst developing our second product range designed for telecom and sensing applications. This is a central function for the development of new products. The successful applicant will be involved from product concept to end of life, collaborating with all internal cross-functional teams. The applicant will deal with test coverage, yield management and optimisation, cost of goods sold optimisation, margin improvement, and transfer to full volume manufacturing. Responsible for overall product compliance to specification of a product through its lifecycle, from first samples through to production release in accordance with our NPI processes and procedures. The applicant should have excellent organisational and communication skills and be comfortable working with engineers, technicians, marketing, sales, and management.

Responsibilities:

  • Executing on all NPI related activities for manufacturability such as yield, COGS, test coverage, limit setting, guard banding, and test releases on and off site.
  • Participating in decisions on the development or sourcing of technologies required for new products such as assembly, test and burn-in solutions.
  • Reviewing product reliability test plans along with other core team members.
  • Working with production test engineering to bring up product and test solutions, at OSAT locations.
  • Capturing and tracking product performance against specs through the entire lifecycle.
  • Executing on production volume ramps and sustaining product yields through the product’s lifetime.
  • Analyzing and reporting yield deviations, working with subcontractors, device engineering, quality and validation engineering to determine root cause and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Dispositioning non-conforming materials.
  • Involvement with failure analysis, root cause and corrective actions for field returns.
  • Drive yield, cost and manufacturing efficiency improvements to increase margins.
  • Collaborate on manufacturing documentation for production transfer and product maintenance.
  • Technical interface with assembly and test subcontractors.
  • Product characterisation and testing in a lab environment.
  • Data analysis.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Appropriate bachelor level EE degree or equivalent experience in a semiconductor product engineering position in industry.
  • 3+ years successful post-graduate semiconductor product engineering experience.
  • Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to collaborate across multifunctional teams and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Direct experience, and track record, of bringing semiconductor products through the NPI development process from definition to production release.
  • Travel to Europe / Far East to meet with suppliers.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.

Goals:

  • 3 months: Familiarity with team, technology, processes, suppliers and project pipeline.
  • 6 Months: Take ownership for one production and one NPI product providing product engineering support for NPI process activities including reliability, RMA activities, non-conforming product dispositioning, interfacing regularly with manufacturing partners.
  • 12 Months: Increased product responsibilities beyond the two parts. Actively participating in yield and cost improvement programs. Developed one area of specific technical expertise to become the product engineering ‘go to’ person for – e.g. wafer probe, final test, yield analysis, wafer fab process knowledge, characterisation etc.

Hours of Work: We work 37.5 hours a week, Monday – Friday. The candidate will be required to be on-site for a minimum of 4 days per week at our office in Sheffield.
