We're looking for an ambitious Engineering Manager to help shape the next stage of our growth at one of the UK's fastest-growing technology companies, transforming pharmacy through digital innovation. You’ll lead engineers across multiple cross-functional squads, taking ownership of delivery, raising engineering standards and driving real impact for our patients, partners and business. With the autonomy to make decisions and shape how your teams work, you’ll play a key role in our continued growth. You’ll also help lead our shift towards AI-native engineering, embracing the latest tools and rethinking how we build and deliver software. And you’ll do it all in healthcare, where innovation and pace go hand in hand with quality, reliability and patient safety.
The Job On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be involved in the following:
- Leading engineers across a couple of cross-functional squads that each own a key area of the business end to end and setting their pace, standards and results.
- Reshaping how your squads work around AI tooling, and measuring what it does for speed and quality.
- Getting your squads shipping in small, frequent releases, cutting through whatever slows delivery down and improving cycle time.
- Hiring strong engineers, setting clear goals and coaching people to do their best work and noticing early when someone needs support.
- Focusing effort where it matters most for patients, partners and revenue and making trade-offs with the whole company in mind.
- Owning delivery for your squads outright, working closely with their Product Owners and Principal Engineers, so the business can trust what your squads commit to.
- Owning your squads’ engineering practices and production systems, from code review and testing to release and learning from every incident.
- Staying hands-on by reviewing code, pairing with engineers and picking up the occasional piece of delivery.
- Working across our stack: TypeScript, React, Next.js, Vite, Playwright, Node, Koa, Postgres, Kubernetes and GCP.
The Person Ideally, we’re looking for someone with the following:
- Experience leading engineering teams to high performance, growing people and hiring well.
- Conviction that AI changes how engineering teams work and a desire to lead that change.
- Urgency with judgement, moving fast, bringing your team with you and knowing the difference between pace and rushing.
- High standards, with honest, supportive feedback that helps people reach them.
- A strong engineering background, credible in a code review and a technical debate, ideally with full-stack web experience.
- A whole-company view, choosing the pragmatic option when the business needs it over the perfect technical solution.
- Clear communication, from landing a delivery risk with the exec team to a career conversation with an engineer.
- A wish to be in our Glasgow office regularly to build a strong team culture.
The Perks And in joining Phlo, you’ll receive a competitive package designed to support your wellbeing, development and success, including:
- Salary between £70,000 and £85,000 depending on experience.
- Company Bonus Scheme – up to 10% depending on performance.
- 33 days annual leave (inclusive of 8 bank holidays).
- An extra day of annual leave for every complete year of service, up to 5 extra days.
- An extra day off for your Birthday to prolong the celebrations.
- Pension scheme – 5% employer contribution.
- Private Medical Insurance via Vitality.
- Bereavement Leave policy covering family, friends, pets, and miscarriage.
- Enhanced Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Pay after 1 year of service.
- Charity Day to support a cause that’s important to you.
- Dependant Leave to take care of the people who rely on you.
- Duvet Days to rest and reset.
- Fertility Leave to support your journey to parenthood.
- Pawternity Leave to welcome a new pet.
- Menopause Leave to support employees.
- 20% Staff Discount on Phlo Clinic products.
- 8 x free professional counselling sessions to support your mental health.
- Perkbox membership for discounts and points.

- Hybrid working, casual dress code and a great culture.

How to prepare for a job interview at Phlo
✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Phlo uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.
✨Showcase Your Projects
Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.
✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
