PHL Group is looking for Forensic Healthcare Professionals to join the team in West Mercia Custody. The custody suites are based in Worcester. This is an exciting role where you will work alongside police officers to assess and treat individuals who are detained in police custody. The role involves determining if a detainee is suffering from a mental health condition, uncooperative, or lacking necessities such as diabetes medication; managing substance misuse or head injury assessments; conducting forensic medical examinations to gather evidence for the criminal justice system; performing clinical assessments, implementing interventions and collecting forensic samples; providing advice and guidance to ensure detainees receive proper care; maintaining detailed and accurate records to safeguard their health, safety, and welfare while in police custody.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver forensic practitioner services in compliance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and local protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and complete timely documentation, including injury record and log all activities using current systems.
  • Advise and support custody officers in assessing detainees healthcare needs and prioritising care, consulting the Forensic Medical Examiner as needed.
  • Assess detainees fitness for detention, interview, understanding of charges and release.
  • Evaluate alcohol and drug intoxication and withdrawal.

Essential Criteria

  • Registered Nurse or paramedic with minimum of 3 years service.
  • Full membership of the NMC or HCPC.
  • Must have a full UK driving license with access to your own vehicle for business use.
  • Competent in oral and written English.
  • Have been continuously resident in the UK for at least 3 years.
  • Right to Work in the UK.
  • Ability to be cleared through the Police Vetting system: Level 2 NPPV clearance.
  • A DBS check is required for this post. PHL will undertake an initial check at the appropriate level on appointment.
