PHL Group is seeking experienced General Practitioners (GPs) to join our dedicated Out-of-Hours (OOH) service across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality urgent primary care when patients need it most. Whether providing telephone triage, consulting with patients at one of our seven primary care centres, or undertaking home visits, you’ll help ensure patients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right place.

About the Role
As an Out-of-Hours GP, you will assess, diagnose and manage a wide range of urgent primary care presentations while working collaboratively with Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Nurses, Paramedics and our wider clinical and operational teams. You will be responsible for delivering safe, effective and compassionate care, supporting clinical decision-making, maintaining high clinical standards and contributing to the ongoing development of our service.
Service Hours
Our Out-of-Hours service operates:
- Monday to Friday: 6:30pm – 8:00am
- Weekends and Bank Holidays: 24-hour service (8:00am – 8:00am)
We offer flexible shift patterns to support a healthy work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
As part of our clinical team, you will:
- Deliver telephone consultations, face-to-face appointments and home visits.
- Assess, diagnose and treat patients presenting with urgent primary care needs.
- Provide emergency care where appropriate while arranging onward transfer.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver outstanding patient care.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records.
- Support clinical governance, quality improvement and audit activities.
- Contribute to education, mentoring and the development of colleagues where appropriate.
About You
We are looking for experienced, motivated GPs who are committed to delivering high-quality patient care.
Essential Requirements
- GMC registered General Practitioner.
- Included on the NHS Performers List with no restrictions on practice.
- Minimum of three years’ post-CCT experience.
- Experience working within Urgent Care, Out-of-Hours, Walk-in Centres or Emergency Departments.
- Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to clinical governance and ongoing professional development.
