PHIX is an independent British fashion brand with a global customer base and a distinctive identity rooted in music and culture.
We’re looking for an ambitious, hands‑on Finance Manager to strengthen our finance function and support our continued international growth.
Working directly with the founder, you’ll take ownership of financial reporting and controls while helping improve how we manage stock, cash and profitability. This is an opportunity to make a visible commercial impact and develop towards broader finance leadership.
You might already be a Finance Manager or Financial Controller, or a strong Senior Management Accountant ready for greater responsibility. You’ll bring solid accounting experience, commercial curiosity and the confidence to get into the detail.
The role
PHIX | Manchester
Working with our existing finance team, operational colleagues and external advisers, you’ll provide reliable reporting, clear visibility of upcoming commitments and practical recommendations that support better decisions.
Financial reporting and control
- Own monthly management accounts, balance-sheet reconciliations and the month‑end timetable.
- Develop clear reporting across international operations, including consolidated management reporting where required.
- Explain performance against budget, investigate variances and recommend action.
- Maintain accurate accounting for stock, cost of goods sold, returns, payment fees and foreign‑exchange movements.
- Strengthen payment approvals, reconciliations and financial controls.
- Coordinate with external accountants on year‑end accounts, statutory reporting and filing deadlines.
International finance and transfer pricing
- Manage intercompany invoicing, balances, reconciliations and settlements.
- Support multi‑entity and multi‑currency reporting, including intercompany eliminations.
- Work with specialist advisers on transfer‑pricing arrangements, taking ownership of their practical implementation and supporting records.
- Ensure agreed stock transfer prices, management charges and cost allocations are applied consistently.
- Monitor cash requirements across international operations and coordinate funding with appropriate advice and approvals.
- Maintain a compliance calendar with advisers covering relevant tax, VAT and sales‑tax obligations.
- Ensure freight, duties and other import costs are accurately reflected in landed costs.
Cash flow and working capital
- Maintain a rolling 13‑week cash‑flow forecast alongside longer‑term budgets and forecasts.
- Provide visibility over stock purchasing commitments, supplier payments and operating expenditure.
- Identify opportunities to improve cash conversion and reduce unnecessary working‑capital requirements.
- Support negotiations on supplier payment terms and monitor their financial impact.
- Give the founder early visibility of cash pressures, risks and upcoming decisions.
Stock, margins and product profitability
- Strengthen stock forecasting, valuation and cost recognition to improve margin accuracy and balance‑sheet integrity.
- Work with product and merchandising colleagues to optimise product mix and inventory allocation.
- Align stock investment with sell‑through, seasonality, launch plans and promotional activity.
- Monitor stock cover, ageing and slow‑moving inventory, recommending practical action.
- Analyse landed margins and product profitability, identifying where pricing, purchasing or costs need attention.
- Support supplier pricing and terms negotiations to improve gross margin, cash conversion and supply reliability.
Commercial insight and pricing strategy
- Build clear reporting on contribution margin by product, channel and market.
- Work with marketing to assess pricing and discount strategies, balancing customer acquisition, margin protection and customer lifetime value.
- Evaluate launches and promotions, including the impact of returns and fulfilment costs.
- Turn analysis into clear recommendations and track whether changes deliver the expected results.
Fulfilment costs and operational efficiency
- Partner with operations and fulfilment providers to understand the full cost per order, including storage, pick and pack, packaging, dispatch and returns.
- Review shipping and fulfilment cost models and recommend improvements to delivery charges, service options and provider arrangements.
- Analyse warehouse charges, carrier performance and service levels to identify avoidable costs and billing discrepancies.
- Help balance efficiency, profitability and customer experience when assessing operational changes.
- Support negotiations with logistics partners and track the savings achieved.
Systems, processes and team development
- Oversee reconciliations between ecommerce platforms, payment providers, bank receipts and accounting records.
- Investigate settlement discrepancies, refunds, chargebacks and missing payments.
- Improve systems and reporting to reduce manual work and strengthen accuracy.
- Use automation and AI tools thoughtfully, with appropriate checks on financial outputs and confidential information.
- Support the existing finance team with clear responsibilities, documented processes and regular review.
About you
You’ll bring:
- An ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating strong accounting ability.
- Experience independently preparing management accounts, maintaining balance‑sheet controls and producing cash‑flow forecasts.
- Experience in ecommerce, retail, fashion, consumer products or another inventory‑led business.
- A sound understanding of stock accounting, product margins and working capital.
- Strong spreadsheet and financial systems skills.
- The ability to explain financial information clearly and make practical commercial recommendations.
- A hands‑on approach, strong follow‑through and the confidence to raise issues early.
Particularly useful experience includes:
- International finance, multi‑entity accounting and foreign currencies.
- Intercompany transactions, consolidation and implementing transfer‑pricing arrangements.
- Shopify or comparable ecommerce platforms and payment systems.
- International stock movements, landed costs and third‑party fulfilment.

What success looks like
- Timely, reliable monthly accounts with clear explanations of performance.
- Cash‑flow forecasts that support purchasing and operating decisions.
- Accurate reconciliations and consistent financial processes.
- Clear visibility of profitability by product, market and channel.
- Measurable improvements in stock investment, costs and reporting.
