Overview

Position: ATU Vibration Test Engineer

Location: Gillingham, Kent, UK

Job Purpose

The position is within a diverse test facility team, responsible for supporting testing in terms of fuel injection development, validation, and new low carbon technologies. The Vibration Test Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and analysing vibration tests on mechanical systems, components, and assemblies. This role ensures product reliability, safety, and compliance with industry standards through rigorous testing and data interpretation. The successful person must be able to adapt and be part of the changing world of propulsion, having an open and enquiring mind across a diverse facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct vibration tests on hardware and subsystems using electrodynamic shakers and other test rigs.
  • Translate technical specifications into practical test setups.
  • Operate and maintain vibration test equipment and data acquisition systems.
  • Analyse vibration data to identify structural weaknesses, fatigue risks, and performance issues.
  • Document test procedures, results, and recommendations for design improvements.
  • Present findings to engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to develop vibration mitigation strategies.
  • Support product development by validating prototypes and production units.
  • Ensure testing adheres to relevant standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810, ISO).
  • Maintain calibration and certification of test equipment.
  • Diagnose faults, using a known structured approach (5 why) of mechanical/electrical issues on the units-under-test.
  • Maintain quality systems, contribute to risk assessments, work instructions.
  • Follow lab safety procedures and stop/report unsafe conditions.
  • Perform vibration measurements, possibly at customers, and assess results in relation to product specifications or derive new vibration validation tests.

Education

  • Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in vibration testing or environmental testing.
  • Proficiency in vibration analysis tools (e.g., LMS Test. Lab, Brüel & Kjær, HBM) and shaker controllers.
  • Knowledge of modal analysis, signal analysis, and fatigue analysis
