A well-known further education college in London is looking for Learning Support Assistants to provide in-class support to students studying vocational and foundation courses. The college has a large provision for post-16 learners, including students progressing from secondary school and those following vocational pathways. Students will be studying across the mainstream curriculum, including vocational and foundation programmes, but many have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) requiring additional support. Needs include Autism, ADHD, moderate learning needs and physical disabilities. Some students require assistance with their mobility and personal independence throughout the college day.

The Role

  • Support students aged 16–19 on either a 1:1 basis or within small groups, helping them access learning and participate fully in college life.
  • Provide learning support across mainstream and vocational lessons.
  • Support students with physical disabilities to move safely around the college.
  • Carry out manual handling and hoist transfers where required, following individual care plans and college procedures.
  • Encourage students' independence, confidence and engagement in learning.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and the wider SEND team to ensure students receive the support they need.

The college is looking for caring, proactive candidates with experience supporting young people with SEND.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Support Worker supporting students with SEND.
  • Experience supporting students with Autism, ADHD and/or physical disabilities.
  • Manual handling and hoist training is highly desirable.
  • A patient, compassionate and flexible approach with a genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve their potential.

It offers excellent training and development opportunities within a supportive and experienced SEND team. The role is term-time only and the college is easily accessible by public transport.
