Are you an enthusiastic History Teacher looking for a part-time teaching opportunity in Maidstone?

A well-established and supportive secondary school in Maidstone, Kent is looking to appoint a passionate and committed Teacher of History to join its Humanities provision on a part-time basis, working 3 days per week.

The successful candidate will primarily teach History, with a requirement to also teach Religious Studies as part of their timetable.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced History Teacher looking for a part-time position, as well as an Early Career Teacher (ECT) looking to develop their career within a supportive and collaborative secondary school environment.

The Role

  • Plan and deliver engaging History lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to teach KS5 where appropriate.
  • Teach Religious Studies as part of your timetable.
  • Create stimulating lessons that encourage pupils to develop their historical knowledge, critical thinking, analysis and evaluation skills.
  • Use a range of teaching strategies and resources to engage pupils across different abilities.
  • Assess pupil progress and provide constructive feedback to support further achievement.
  • Adapt and differentiate teaching to meet the needs of individual pupils.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement and academic progress.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within the History and wider Humanities team.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers and other stakeholders regarding pupil progress.
  • Contribute positively to the wider life of the school.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an appropriate UK-recognised teaching qualification.
  • Has a relevant degree in History or a related subject.
  • Has experience teaching History within a secondary school setting, either through employment or teacher training placements.
  • Can confidently teach History at KS3 and KS4 / GCSE level.
  • Is willing and able to teach Religious Studies alongside History.
  • Has strong and up-to-date History subject knowledge.
  • Understands the secondary History curriculum and a range of approaches to assessment.
  • Can plan challenging, engaging and well-organised lessons.
  • Can adapt teaching to support pupils across a range of abilities and learning needs.
  • Has confident classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Has high expectations for pupil achievement and progress.
  • Is enthusiastic, dedicated and committed to working as part of a collaborative team.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Experience teaching History at KS5 and/or previous experience teaching Religious Studies would be advantageous.
