Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

We are currently recruiting dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistants to join a range of welcoming schools across South West London.

These are full-time, long-term opportunities where you will become an integral member of one school's support team, working consistently with the same pupils and staff to help children reach their full potential.

Whether you're an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant or looking to build your career within special educational needs, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work full-time within one school, providing consistent support to pupils with a range of additional needs.

Depending on the setting, you may support pupils on a 1:1 basis, work with small intervention groups, or assist within a specialist provision or mainstream classroom.

You will play an important role in helping pupils access learning, develop their communication and social skills, build confidence and achieve their individual targets.

Every day is different, and you'll work closely with teachers, SENDCOs and therapists to provide the best possible support for each child.

The pupils you support may have a range of needs, including

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Moderate or Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • ADHD
  • Physical disabilities
  • Complex learning needs
  • Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • What Your Day Could Look Like
  • Providing 1:1 or small group support throughout the school day.
  • Assisting pupils during classroom lessons to help them engage with learning.
  • Supporting communication using visual aids, Makaton, PECS or other strategies where appropriate.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation and independence.
  • Delivering targeted interventions under the guidance of the class teacher or SENDCO.
  • Helping pupils with personal, social and emotional development.
  • Supporting sensory activities and implementing individual learning plans.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other support staff to ensure every child receives the support they need.

As a full-time member of staff, you'll have the opportunity to build strong relationships with pupils, celebrate their progress and become a valued member of the wider school community.

We Are Looking For

To be considered for these opportunities, you should have

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, either in education, care or a similar setting.
  • A patient, caring and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.

Experience supporting pupils with autism or knowledge of approaches such as Attention Autism, TEACCH, Makaton or PECS would be beneficial, but is not essential.
