Pastoral Support worker

The Role

As a Pastoral Support worker, you will work as part of the schools inclusion and student personal development and pastoral team. The role is to support students to overcome barriers to learning, improve achievement, progress and develop the student’s character and conduct to help them fulfil their potential as a learner.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the pastoral team in personal development of students towards values, character strengths, attitudes and behaviour
  • To communicate with the appropriate members of the school, including tutors and the SEN department so that strategies and targeted learning can be actioned.
  • Supporting students with social, emotional, and wellbeing needs, and signposting additional help where required.
  • Meeting with parents, carers, and external agencies to discuss student progress or concerns.
  • Assisting with behaviour monitoring, attendance tracking, and record keeping.
  • Contributing to whole‑school initiatives that support inclusion and student wellbeing.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure consistent pastoral support across the year groups.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a secondary school or other educational setting.
  • Pastoral or student support experience is essential.
  • An empathetic, patient approach with the ability to communicate confidently with young people.
  • Good organisation and written English skills
