Are you an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant passionate about supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs?

We are looking for dedicated, resilient and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistants to join a range of primary schools. If you have experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, emotional regulation and barriers to learning, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils who may experience social, emotional and mental health difficulties that impact their behaviour, learning and engagement in school.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Managing challenging behaviour with a calm and consistent approach.
  • Supporting pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Delivering targeted interventions and personalised support.
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams.
  • Following behaviour support plans, risk assessments and school policies.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant who is:

  • Experienced in supporting pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Calm, patient, resilient and emotionally aware.
  • Confident managing dysregulated and challenging behaviour.
  • Skilled at building positive, trusting relationships.
  • Knowledgeable in emotional regulation and positive behaviour support.
  • Consistent, reliable and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Compassionate and able to understand the needs behind behaviour.
  • A strong communicator and effective team player.
  • Committed to developing pupils’ confidence, independence and wellbeing.
