A specialist SEND school for primary aged pupils with Autism is looking for a qualified and experienced SEND teacher to join them on a full-time contract basis for the academic year.

The Role

In this role, you will be teaching a class of 8 primary age learners, all of whom have Autism. 2 pupils are verbal and can read and write to a good standard. 2 pupils require sensory support due to their needs. 6 learners require more support but can match symbols and react to visuals. Pupils in the class follow a semi-structured curriculum and sensory curriculum which are incorporated together across the week. You will take on planning responsibilities for age-appropriate activities and other additional learning opportunities whilst also giving pupils time for energy breaks. There is an experienced team of Learning Support Assistants in place in the class to provide support to all learners. The class needs a teacher who has a good understanding of Autism who can provide structure, routines, and appropriate learning. You will be using a variety of teaching and communication methods including PECS and Attention Autism.

This specialist primary school is for children aged 2 to 11 with severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), Autism (ASD), and complex medical needs.
