We are looking for an experienced and passionate SEN Teacher to join a well-respected Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Tower Hamlets. This is an exciting opportunity to work with children and young people who may have experienced barriers to learning, and make a real difference to their educational journey.

The Role

In this SEN Teacher role, you will be teaching within the secondary provision. Classes will be up to 6 pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs. You will have a team of support staff in the class to allow for emotional and behavioural support. You will need to have a good understanding of core subject curriculums and must have PRU experience. You will need to be approachable and patient and be able to build a strong rapport with the students. You will be working closely with other staff and professionals to manage challenging emotional and social behaviour on a daily basis.

Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver high-quality, tailored teaching to students with special educational needs.
  • Plan and implement engaging lessons in line with the school’s curriculum.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively, creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Develop individual education plans (IEPs) and monitor student progress.
  • Work closely with other professionals, including SENCOs, support staff, and external agencies.
  • Provide regular feedback to students and parents on progress.

The Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)

The PRU works with primary and secondary aged pupils who have been permanently excluded from mainstream settings across the borough of Hackney. Pupils have the chance to develop their skills in a place which fosters tolerance and confidence. The centre allows pupils to refocus on their learning and offers specialist support to allow individual development according to each pupil’s needs. There is an established leadership team and teaching staff in place and all staff benefit from the shared learning and training to enable you to become an excellent SEMH practitioner. The school is easily accessible by public transport.
