Are you an experienced SEMH Learning Support Assistant with TEAM TEACH training? Do you have the confidence and resilience to support young people with social, emotional and mental health needs in a specialist secondary school? Philosophy Education is recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEMH secondary school in Wandsworth seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their supportive team on a full-time basis. This specialist setting supports students with SEMH needs and behaviours that challenge. The school provides a personalised curriculum that combines core academic subjects with practical vocational learning, helping students develop confidence, independence and the skills they need for future employment.
As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support students both in the classroom and around the school, promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
- Support students across a range of subjects including English, Maths, Science, Humanities and ICT.
- Assist students during vocational lessons including Construction, Electrical Installation, Animal Care/Farming and other practical learning environments.
- Use positive behaviour management strategies to encourage engagement and reduce barriers to learning.
- Build positive relationships with students while promoting independence, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to ensure the best outcomes for every student.
Essential Requirements
- Current TEAM TEACH training is essential.
- Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH, behavioural needs or within an alternative provision or specialist school.
- Confident managing behaviours that challenge using restorative and de-escalation techniques.
- Calm, resilient and able to build positive professional relationships.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply through Philosophy Education.
