A large, vibrant school in Charlton is looking for an experienced and nurturing HLTA / Lead Teaching Assistant to join their school on a full-time basis to support children with SEND in their support hub.
The role involves being based in the purpose-built hub within the school, supporting children with Special Educational Needs. You will support 4 to 5 key stage one pupils who are in the hub due to their specific special educational needs. The pupils have a high range of needs, with most being non-verbal and some displaying challenging behaviour. They have been struggling to access learning within mainstream classrooms, leading to the creation of a specialist learning hub. Within the hub, the children follow a sensory curriculum with a focus on basic communication and development in a caring and nurturing environment.
The school is seeking an experienced HLTA / Lead Teaching Assistant who has previous experience supporting children with SEND. The hub uses PECS and Makaton, so experience using these methods is preferable. You will work under the support of the SENCO, hub teacher, and the leadership team.
The school is part of a small multi-academy trust and has two sites. The site you will be based in is located close to main line rail stations with good bus links from Charlton and North Greenwich. As a 3 form entry site, teachers within the year group work closely together in planning and assessment for their respective year groups. Results at early years, key stage 1 and 2 are consistently above national, proving teaching and learning to be effective. The school is popular within the local community and has a culture of working closely with parents. They have been recognised for their work on closing the gap for disadvantaged pupils and provide outreach support for other schools across the borough of Greenwich and the south of England.

- Excellent communication skills
