Are you a passionate and resilient Food Technology Teacher looking to make a real difference in a specialist setting? An established Alternative Provision in the London Borough of Hillingdon is seeking a dedicated Food Technology specialist to join their committed team on a full-time, temp to perm basis. This is a rewarding opportunity to teach and inspire students who are unable to attend mainstream school for a variety of reasons, predominantly permanent exclusion.

About the Provision

This specialist setting supports a diverse and dynamic cohort of pupils across a wide age range. Due to the nature of Alternative Provision, the student population is transient, with pupils joining and leaving throughout the academic year. Staff are adaptable, nurturing and committed to delivering personalised learning experiences that re-engage students with education. The school works with many different groups of pupils, including:

  • Students who have been fixed-term or permanently excluded
  • Students at risk of permanent exclusion
  • Young mums and pupils unable to attend school for medical reasons
  • Students requiring education other than at school (EOTAS), including disaffected pupils
  • Students who require additional in‑school support
  • Pupils who have recently moved into Hillingdon and do not yet have a school place
  • Students with identifiable additional needs that do not require an EHCP

The Role

As a Food Technology Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, practical Food Technology lessons tailored to varying abilities
  • Support students in developing essential life skills, independence and confidence
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse behavioural and educational needs
  • Build strong, positive relationships to re‑engage students in learning
  • Work collaboratively within a supportive, multidisciplinary team

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching Food Technology at KS3 and/or KS4
  • Experience in Alternative Provision, PRU or working with vulnerable learners (desirable)
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship‑building skills
  • A patient, empathetic and resilient approach
