Food Technology and Art Technician

Term-Time Only

Start date: ASAP
Reports to: Head of Art and Technology
Salary: Grade SC4
Hours: 35 hours per week, term-time only

About the role

We are seeking a well-organised, reliable and practical Food Technology and Art Technician to join our busy and creative Art and Technology Faculty.

Working across both the Food Technology and Art departments, you will play an important role in supporting teaching and learning by ensuring that classrooms, specialist equipment and resources are prepared, organised and ready for lessons. You will help maintain safe, tidy and well-equipped working environments, enabling teachers and students to make the most of practical learning opportunities.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a hands-on role, takes pride in being organised and would like to contribute to a supportive educational environment.

About the faculty

Our Art and Technology Faculty comprises six teachers and is based in a dedicated specialist building with a range of facilities, including:

  • A Food Technology classroom and preparation area
  • Dedicated Art preparation and storage space
  • Two Art classrooms
  • A Textiles room
  • A Computer Science room
  • A faculty office

Art, Textiles and Food Technology are popular GCSE subjects, offering students opportunities to develop their creativity, practical skills and confidence.

The ideal candidate

We are looking for someone who is proactive, adaptable and enthusiastic about supporting practical subjects. The successful candidate will be able to organise resources effectively, work collaboratively with teaching staff and manage competing priorities in a busy school environment.

You should have a practical approach to problem-solving, good attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining safe and well-organised learning spaces. Experience in an educational, food preparation, art or practical workshop environment would be advantageous.

Safeguarding and safer recruitment

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The appointment will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education and safer recruitment practices, online searches will be carried out for all shortlisted candidates. These searches will consider publicly available information relevant to candidates’ suitability to work with children. Shortlisted candidates will receive further guidance and may be asked to clarify aspects of their online presence.

Salary information

The advertised actual salary range reflects continuous service, with the maximum salary indicating five or more years of continuous service with local government schools. The starting salary will be determined according to the successful candidate’s individual circumstances.

We have a policy to respond to all applications within three working days. However, because of the volume of applications, we are sometimes unable to reply to individual enquiries. If we have not contacted you within this specified time your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion.
