We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated, proactive and forward-thinking Pharmacy Technician to join our friendly, high-performing multidisciplinary team at PHGH Doctors, based in Temple Fortune, Northwest London. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in medicines optimisation and prescribing safety, supporting high-quality, patient-centred care.

PHGH Doctors is a large, well-established GP practice serving approximately 14,000 patients, making us the largest practice within Barnet PCN 6. Our diverse clinical team includes over 10 GPs, 2 pharmacists, 2 nurses, and a range of allied health professionals including a Physician Associate, MSK Practitioner, and Social Prescriber.

Main duties of the job

The Pharmacy Technician will support the safe, effective, and cost-effective use of medicines within a busy GP practice. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting medicines optimisation and prescribing safely in line with national guidance and local formulary policy
  • Conducting clinical, prescribing, and patient safety audits to support quality improvement and governance
  • Supporting QOF, Quality Improvement Projects (QIP), and Prescribing Quality Scheme (PQS) initiatives
  • Promoting cost-effective prescribing, deprescribing, and therapeutic switches where appropriate
  • Managing and optimising the repeat prescribing process, including responding to medication queries and workflow management
  • Undertaking medicines reconciliation for new patients and following hospital discharge
  • Supporting structured medication reviews and long-term condition management
  • Actioning and responding to clinical correspondence, MHRA alerts, and safety updates, ensuring accurate clinical records
  • Using Ardens and CQC searches to support drug monitoring, including high-risk medicines and ADHD prescribing
  • Working collaboratively with clinical pharmacists, GPs, and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Supporting patients with medicines adherence, administration, and understanding of their treatment
  • Promoting public health initiatives, healthy lifestyle advice, and addressing health inequalities
  • Supporting antimicrobial stewardship and infection control initiatives
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of national guidelines, NICE guidance, and local prescribing policies
  • Communicating effectively with primary and secondary care colleagues to ensure continuity of care
  • Actively participating in practice meetings, learning events, and service development
  • Maintaining ongoing continuing professional development (CPD) in line with professional requirements

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience working in a GP practice or Primary Care Network (PCN) setting
  • Experience in medicines management, repeat prescribing, or prescribing/clinical safety audits

Skills and knowledge

  • Strong IT skills with the ability to use clinical systems effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Understanding of medicines optimisation and prescribing safety in primary care
  • Working knowledge of EMIS clinical system

Qualifications

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent qualification in medicines management, dispensing, or healthcare science
  • Enrolled in, undertaking, or qualified from an approved training pathway such as the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP)
