We’re hiring: Business Development Manager
Employment type: Full-time
Location: The business is based near Oxford / Oxfordshire. The candidate can be based broadly across England, although very remote locations (e.g., Cornwall or the Outer Hebrides) are not ideal due to travel requirements.
Work set-up: Hybrid. Attend the office periodically for meetings and interaction with the senior leadership team. A significant proportion of the role can be carried out effectively remotely via Teams.
About The Role
- To identify and maximize potential business opportunities for growth, within agreed territories and to an agreed value, and beyond per annum of new additional sales, to be reviewed on an annual basis.
- To bid and win new business within designated target markets.
- To support the retention and development of our existing business portfolio.
New Business
- To provide strategic leadership in commercial business development within the company and be instrumental in securing new business opportunities.
- Identify new customers and gaps in the market where the client has potential to respond to and proactively target to win new business.
- Acquire/Build commercial Tenders/Bids that demonstrate innovation, knowledge, and expertise within our field, financial acumen, and meet the needs and outcomes of the client.
- Ensure all tender response documents are factual, accurate, and professionally presented.
- Verbally confident and persuasive, you will prepare and deliver tender/proposal presentations to potential clients.
- Manage the sales process effectively through prospect development, tender receipt, proposal, presentation, and closing negotiations.
- Track progress against targets on an ongoing basis and take necessary action to refocus efforts if targets are not being met.
- Forecasting & Reporting: Create forecasts, monitor progress, and report on business initiatives and sales performance, including business lost and reasons.
- Support the mobilization of all new business with agreed handover to Administration/Consultants.
- You will be responsible for keeping abreast of related national, regional, and local developments, changing priorities, and legislation within the sector and other relevant marketplaces.
Contract & Proposal Development
- Draft proposals, bids, and contracts, ensuring legal and company guidelines are met.
Existing Business
- Working in close liaison with our senior colleagues, you will ensure a joined up approach to retaining and developing our existing client base.
- Proactively support the retention of existing business during the renewal process and pursue leads to expand existing business.
- Actively promote the sale of additional services to existing clients.
- Target and build prospective client relationships.
- Network with contacts and follow up on identified actions and leads.
- Participate fully in setting strategy, developing and monitoring the Business Plan, and inputting into the forward direction of the Company.
Experience/Knowledge and Competencies
- Experienced contractual Business Development in a variety of markets: Construction, Commercial Business, and Industry, along with Education experience, would be an advantage.
- Proven track record of consistent results against targets set.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate.
- Self-motivated, confident networker and relationship builder.
- Inspiring presenter with articulate and impactful written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Solution development: ability to develop solutions that match the needs of all influencers.
