Phelan is a founder-led, Irish family-owned international renewable energy group, that has successfully developed a remarkable e-Fuels platform, built by entrepreneurs with a long track record of profitable execution in large-scale infrastructure. Over the past two decades, Phelan has successfully developed, financed, built and operated major renewable energy assets across multiple jurisdictions. That same execution-first DNA now underpins our green hydrogen, e-Fuels and sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) platform, anchored in South Africa and serving EU and UK compliance markets. Our approach is deliberately commercial, technically rigorous, and independent. We prioritise projects that work without subsidies, disciplined capital deployment, and long-term asset value over headline announcements. Projects are measured in billions of euros, not headcount.
As Phelan enters its international scaling phase across Europe, India and Africa, we are appointing a Global Head of Strategy and Integration to partner directly with the Founder and Group leadership.
The Phelan Ethos
- Founder-led, owner-minded decision-making
- Clear focus on sustainable profitability
- Execution over narrative
- Lean teams, high accountability
- Long-term value creation, not short-term optics
- Integrity, discretion and trust in how we work with partners, capital providers
- Serious work, strong returns, real fun
Phelan is being built with a clear long-term trajectory, including the option of a future IPO, once scale, governance and earnings maturity are achieved — without sacrificing founder culture.
The Role
The Global Head of Strategy and Integration will help shape the next decade of Phelan’s growth. At its core, this role is about the careful selection, alignment and development of exceptional people, building a leadership team that can execute at scale with judgement, integrity and pace.
- Design the organisational structure, governance and operating cadence required for scale
- Lead the build-out of senior leadership, technical and delivery teams internationally
- Act as a trusted strategic partner to the Founder and Board, providing judgement, challenge and synthesis
- Support FID-level investment decisions, capital structuring and investor readiness
- Work closely with all key global stakeholders
- Prepare the platform for public-market standards over time
This is a builder and integrator role, not an advisory or HR position.
Who This Is For
You are likely to be:
- A senior strategy, COO-track or platform-build leader
- Experienced in capital-intensive, regulated or infrastructure-heavy environments
- Comfortable operating at the intersection of founder leadership, capital markets and execution teams
- Commercially grounded, intellectually rigorous, and trusted by senior stakeholders
- Motivated by building a durable, investable global platform
Who This Is Not For
Career consultants seeking an advisory seat, early-career strategists, those seeking narrow functional ownership or predictable structures.
Why This Role Is Different
- Direct access to the Founder and Group decision-making
- Real authority to shape people, structure and execution
- Solid performance track record and balance sheet
- Exposure to international capital markets and future IPO preparation
- Long-term platform opportunity with tangible assets and delivery timelines
- A culture that values judgement, integrity and results
Location: Flexible between Europe and South Africa, with regular international engagement. This appointment is being handled on a strictly confidential basis. Expressions of interest, including a short CV and brief note, should be sent directly to: donene@phelangreen.com
