The Senior Pharmacist - Professional Standards Lead provides professional, clinical, and governance leadership within the pharmacy service, ensuring medicines are supplied safely, effectively, and in line with regulatory and professional standards. Reporting operationally to the Pharmacy Manager, the post holder works within the pharmacy rota while acting as the professional standards lead for pharmacy practice. This role is distinct from that of the Pharmacy Manager and is focused on upholding professional excellence, medicines safety, and regulatory compliance across the service.
Working within the operational pharmacy environment, the role combines hands-on delivery (34 days per week) with responsibility for setting and maintaining high standards of pharmacy practice, medicines safety and professional accountability across the team.
Main duties of the job- The post holder is accountable for ensuring that clinical and dispensing decisions are safe, appropriate and consistent.
- Risks are identified early, and escalated appropriately through the Pharmacy Manager and governance structures.
- Pharmacy practice is compliant, consistent and inspection-ready.
- Where practice does not meet expected standards, it is identified, addressed and improved in a timely and proportionate manner.
The role supports the development of pharmacy systems, people and processes, acting as a key deputy to the Superintendent Pharmacist. It offers a clear development pathway toward future senior pharmacy leadership roles as the organisation grows.

We are seeking an experienced and credible pharmacist who provides strong professional leadership within a complex, high-volume homecare environment. Demonstrates the ability to maintain and improve standards of pharmacy practice, develop others, and ensure clinical and operational risks are identified, managed and escalated appropriately. Able to balance patient safety, regulatory requirements and operational pressures, while driving consistency, learning and continuous improvement across the pharmacy team.
Person SpecificationExperience- Significant experience in pharmacy practice, including clinical checking and dispensary operations.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy legislation, professional standards and medicines governance.
- Experience supporting or supervising pharmacists and/or pharmacy technicians.
- Experience in clinical homecare, hospital or specialist pharmacy services.
- Experience supporting audits, inspections or regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of GDP / GxP environments and documentation standards (e.g. ALCOA+).
- MPharm degree (or recognised equivalent).
- Registered Pharmacist with General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD and professional development.
- Postgraduate qualification or specialist training (e.g. oncology, homecare, prescribing).
