Role Overview

The Lead Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, and patient-centred delivery of oncology pharmacy services. The role supports high-quality cancer care by providing clinical pharmacy leadership, driving medicines management initiatives, and ensuring services meet regulatory, governance, and national oncology standards.

This Lead Pharmacist role would be best suited to an experienced Oncology Pharmacist who is looking to combine clinical leadership, service development, governance, and operational oversight rather than focusing solely on frontline dispensing or clinical practice.

The successful candidate would likely be:

  • A GPhC-registered Pharmacist with a BSc Pharmacy (or equivalent).
  • An experienced practitioner with significant oncology pharmacy experience, ideally within a cancer centre, specialist oncology service, or hospital oncology department.
  • Comfortable working with electronic prescribing systems, particularly supporting implementation, optimisation, training, and governance activities.
  • A pharmacist who enjoys improving services and processes, including protocol development, audit, quality improvement, and medicines governance.
  • Confident working across multidisciplinary teams, building relationships with consultants, nurses, operational teams, and senior leaders.
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to balance clinical, strategic, and operational priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading safe oncology pharmacy practice, ensuring patients receive optimal pharmaceutical care and that clinical pharmacy services are continuously developed and improved.
  • Supporting the growth of oncology services, including the development and optimisation of electronic prescribing systems (Mosaiq), implementation of new treatment protocols, and oversight of governance processes for systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT).
  • Contributing to medicines management and clinical governance, including audits, reporting, policy development, strategic planning, and ensuring best practice in oncology prescribing and medication use.
  • Leading the day-to-day operation of the Oncology Pharmacy, maintaining high standards of patient care and ensuring cancer and palliative care services are aligned, evidence-based, and continuously improved.

Benefits

  • Annual Leave: We offer 25 days + bank holidays (increasing to 27 days after 3 years' service).
  • Salary Sacrifice Pension: We offer an auto-enrolment pension from day 1 with a standard contribution of 5% employee, and 4% employer. You can also opt to enhance your contribution to 6%, to which the employer will also contribute 6%.
  • Life Assurance: We offer a life assurance scheme equivalent to 3 x your annual salary.
  • Wellbeing: The wellbeing of our people is extremely important to us, and we therefore offer an enhanced Employee Assistance Programme which offers holistic wellbeing support from fully accredited counsellors and psychotherapists, in the form of on-demand advice and counselling for our people and their immediate family.
  • Reward & Recognition: All staff have access to our 'Ignite' benefits platform where you will have instant access to savings, cashback and reloadable vouchers for hundreds of leading retailers and brands.
