The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop commercial and business skills and experience in a highly successful global healthcare advisory firm.
The Analyst will
- Have 2-3 years’ experience in a life sciences consultancy or market research firm
- Have business research, analysis and market research experience
- Use financial modelling and analysis to derive deal terms for transactions
- Be responsible for supporting the execution of deal related projects together
- Attend client meetings
- Generate client reports and presentations
- Contribute to the promotion and development of all aspects of Pharma Ventures’ business
Working as an analyst at Pharma Ventures can provide unusually broad exposure to the commercial and transactional side of the life-sciences industry. The principal benefits are:
Direct exposure to live transactions
Analysts work on pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medtech and diagnostics assignments involving:
- licensing and partnering;
- mergers and acquisitions;
- company or asset sales;
- strategic acquisitions;
- commercial due diligence;
- valuations and deal structuring.
This provides practical experience of how healthcare transactions progress from initial assessment through partner identification, diligence, negotiation and completion.
2. Development of scientific and commercial expertise
The role requires analysts to understand both the underlying science and its commercial implications. They gain experience evaluating:
- therapeutic areas and mechanisms of action;
- clinical and regulatory development;
- intellectual property;
- market size and competitive positioning;
- pricing, reimbursement and market access;
- manufacturing and commercialisation requirements.
This creates a valuable combination of scientific, commercial and financial knowledge.
3. Strong analytical and valuation skills
Analysts can develop practical competence in
- market modelling and revenue forecasting;
- risk-adjusted net present value;
- comparable-company and comparable-deal analysis;
- probability-of-success assessment;
- transaction economics;
- licensing structures, milestones and royalties;
- company and asset valuation.
These capabilities are transferable to business development, investment banking, venture capital, private equity, corporate strategy and pharmaceutical portfolio management.
4. Close involvement with senior dealmakers
Compared with a large consultancy or investment bank, analysts in a specialist advisory firm may have more direct contact with senior colleagues and decision-makers.
They can observe how experienced dealmakers
- assess opportunities;
- challenge management assumptions;
- position an asset or company;
- communicate with potential partners;
- manage negotiations;
- resolve transaction obstacles.
This can accelerate professional development.
5. Broad project responsibility
An analyst may contribute across several stages of an assignment rather than working on only one narrow task. Responsibilities can include:
- researching markets and competitors;
- analysing clinical and commercial data;
- preparing valuation models;
- identifying potential partners or acquirers;
- producing teasers and confidential information memoranda;
- supporting virtual data-room preparation;
- preparing client and counterparty meetings;
- tracking outreach and transaction progress.
This gives the analyst a more complete understanding of the deal process.
6. International exposure
Life-sciences transactions are inherently international.
Pharma Ventures works with companies, investors and strategic counterparties across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific and other markets.
Analysts therefore gain experience of
- cross-border transactions;
- different healthcare systems;
- regional licensing strategies;
- international market dynamics;
- cultural differences in negotiation and decision-making.
- 7. Contact with senior industry participants
Analysts may work on assignments involving company founders, chief executives, business-development executives, investors, scientists, clinicians and lawyers.
This builds confidence in communicating with senior stakeholders and helps develop a valuable professional network.
8. Variety of assignments
The work can cover drug assets, platform technologies, medical devices, diagnostics, contract manufacturing businesses and healthcare-service companies.
Analysts are therefore less likely to be confined to one product, company or therapeutic area.
9. Visible contribution to client outcomes
The analyst’s research and modelling can directly influence
- how an opportunity is positioned;
- which counterparties are approached;
- the valuation expectations adopted;
- the proposed deal structure;
- management and board decisions;
- the negotiation strategy.
This creates a stronger connection between analytical work and real commercial outcomes.
- 10. Attractive career progression
- Experience at Pharma Ventures can support progression into roles such as:
- senior analyst or associate;
- life-sciences business development;
- corporate development;
- pharmaceutical licensing;
- strategy consulting;
- healthcare investment banking;
- venture capital or private equity;
- market intelligence and commercial strategy;
- portfolio and asset management.
- Overall proposition
The main benefit is the opportunity to become a commercially informed life-sciences deal professional , rather than remaining solely a scientific, financial or market-research analyst.
The role combines technical analysis with practical transaction experience, client exposure and an understanding of how value is created, validated and realised in the healthcare industry.
