Apply modelling and simulation science to accelerate drug discovery.

Pharmaron is seeking a Mechanistic Modeller to support the application of modelling and simulation sciences across integrated drug discovery projects within our Integrated Drug Discovery Services group. This is an exciting role, ideal for a scientist with experience in pharmacokinetics, PBPK modelling, ADME, biopharmaceutics or related disciplines, who is motivated by applying mechanistic approaches to support data-driven decision making across drug discovery programmes.

The Integrated Drug Discovery (IDD) Services group at Pharmaron is responsible for leading and delivering drug discovery projects for our client partners. The team comprises scientific expertise and strategic leadership across medicinal chemistry, CADD, biology, DMPK and translational science. Combined with Pharmaron’s global research capabilities we design and deliver integrated programmes from target identification and hit finding through to IND filing. Working closely with our partners we define strategy, coordinate execution across teams and with an AI enabled Design–Make–Test–Analyse cycle support the progression of projects and innovative medicines towards the clinic.

The opportunity

You will support the development, qualification and application of PBPK and mechanistic models across modalities, helping to simulate drug disposition, pharmacokinetics and biopharmaceutical behaviour. Working closely with internal DMPK colleagues in the UK and China, as well as external client partners, you will help ensure appropriate data generation, interpretation, modelling and reporting to support continued project and contract delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development, qualification and application of PBPK models across modalities in support of Integrated Drug Discovery projects and other DMPK-related client contracts.
  • Simulate drug disposition and biopharmaceutics behaviour to inform project strategy and decision making.
  • Collate, review and interpret physicochemical, ADME, biopharmaceutical and pharmacokinetic datasets in preparation for PBPK modelling and other DMPK project activities.
  • Work with DMPK scientists across the UK and China to generate appropriate data, including assay submissions, for modelling and project-related activities.
  • Apply an understanding of drug physicochemical and API properties and their impact on ADME and biopharmaceutical behaviour.
  • Use IVIVE principles to support pharmacokinetic and/or biopharmaceutics extrapolation.
  • Identify, troubleshoot and resolve modelling challenges.
  • Support human PK and dose predictions using routine empirical, non-compartmental or compartmental approaches, where appropriate.
  • Present data and communicate results clearly to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Document modelling activities in accordance with departmental procedures, quality standards and regulatory expectations.
  • Contribute to the authorship of scientific reports for client projects.
  • Support the development of internal PBPK capabilities and contribute to enhancing Pharmaron’s scientific reputation in modelling and simulation science.

About You

You are a scientifically curious and collaborative modeller with a strong grounding in pharmacokinetics, ADME and mechanistic modelling.

Experience:

  • BSc in a relevant scientific discipline such as mathematics, engineering, bioscience, pharmaceutical sciences or a related subject.

  • Understanding of IVIVE methodologies as applied to PK and/or biopharmaceutics extrapolation.
  • Ability to interpret in vitro and in vivo DMPK datasets and apply them appropriately to modelling workflows.
  • Understanding of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion and how these influence drug disposition and pharmacokinetic behaviour.
  • Knowledge of physicochemical and API properties and their impact on ADME and biopharmaceutical performance.
  • Understanding of non-compartmental and compartmental PK analysis, and knowledge of how these approaches can be applied to human dose predictions, would be advantageous.
  • Experience using scientific programming and data analysis tools such as R, Python, MATLAB or Phoenix WinNonlin would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of model-informed drug development principles would be beneficial.

What Sets You Apart

  • Strong scientific curiosity and a passion for applying modelling and simulation to real drug discovery challenges.
