We’re looking for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our team in Liverpool. In your role, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and improving critical manufacturing and utility systems within a GMP environment. The role has a particular focus on pressurised systems (Black steam, clean steam, compressed air), refrigeration plant (Chilled water, ACU’s), HVAC systems, and associated cGMP utilities that support product quality, environmental control and operational reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on manufacturing equipment, mechanical systems and critical site utilities.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance activities within required compliance timescales.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC systems supporting cleanrooms, laboratories and production areas.
  • Maintain steam systems and associated distribution networks.
  • Support the maintenance of site utilities, including low-temperature hot water, compressed air, chilled water, pre-treated water and effluent treatment systems.
  • Maintain critical GMP utility systems, including Cold Water for Injection (CWFI) and pure steam systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out repairs to minimise equipment downtime and operational disruption.
  • Support HVAC qualification, validation and requalification activities.
  • Raise, manage and complete maintenance work orders using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Complete all maintenance records accurately and at the time the work is carried out, in line with GMP requirements.
  • Manage specialist contractors and equipment vendors, including reviewing risk assessments and method statements and issuing permits to work.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with GMP, GDP, health and safety requirements and company procedures.
  • Support engineering investigations, deviations, corrective and preventive actions, change controls and audits.
  • Interpret P&ID drawings and other engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Monitor and operate Building Management Systems and PLC-controlled process utility systems.
  • Participate in the 24-hour engineering and facilities on-call rota, acting as the first point of contact for site issues for one week in every five.

Candidate Profile

  • Experienced as a Time served maintenance engineer.
  • Familiar with Dangerous Goods Handling.
  • A Mechanical Engineering Qualification (i.e. national certificate).
  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC, LEV, clean rooms and AC.
  • Demonstrated experience within a cGMP biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Experience in GMP and clean room facilities, HVAC etc.
  • Experienced with Import & Export Customs Procedures.

Desirable

  • Experience working with MHRA/FDA guidelines.
