About the Role

Join our Engineering & Facilities Team at Hoddesdon as a Calibration & Instrumentation Engineer. You will be responsible for planned and reactive calibration, instrumentation maintenance, and fault-finding across a variety of site equipment and systems. You will ensure that work is completed safely, accurately, and on time, while meeting GxP requirements, approved procedures, and recognised standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive calibration, maintenance and fault-finding activities across site instrumentation and control systems.
  • Complete calibration and preventative maintenance schedules on time using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Calibrating temperature, humidity, pressure, flow and speed instrumentation supporting BMS-monitored HVAC, reactor systems, stability chambers, cold rooms, utilities and room-pressure cascades.
  • Respond to instrumentation failures and emergency breakdowns, minimising disruption to site operations.
  • Produce accurate, traceable and GxP-compliant calibration certificates, maintenance records and technical reports.
  • Support small projects where required, including the design, installation, commissioning and qualification of new or modified instrumentation and control systems.
  • Continually look for innovative and cost-effective ways of completing work without compromising safety, quality or compliance.

Candidate Profile

  • Engineering apprenticeship, technical qualification or equivalent experience in instrumentation, calibration or control engineering.
  • Post-apprenticeship experience within an instrumentation, calibration or controls position.
  • Practical experience calibrating temperature, humidity, pressure, flow or speed instrumentation.
  • Broad knowledge of engineered systems, calibration practices and maintenance activities.
  • Experience working with temperature, humidity and pressure instrument loops supporting BMS-monitored HVAC systems, reactor systems, stability chambers, cold rooms and room-pressure cascades.
  • Experience investigating instrumentation faults and out-of-tolerance calibration results.
  • Experience with purified water systems, agitator speed sensors, MCERTS flowmeters and VOC gas analysers would be beneficial.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working with GMP manufacturing equipment.
  • A recognised qualification in a secondary controls discipline, or equivalent practical experience in control systems.
  • Knowledge of high-integrity process control systems and PLC programming.
  • Experience supporting the installation, commissioning or qualification of new instrumentation.
  • Experience managing calibration equipment, reference standards and associated certification.
