Job Summary

The Buyer plays a key role in assisting the Buyer Team Leader by executing daily procurement operations in SAP, managing material flow, and maintaining optimal inventory levels within the manufacturing environment.

This role is responsible for accurate SAP data entry, proactive supply chain tracking, and ensuring smooth production workflows through reliable material availability.

Key Responsibilities

  • 1. Procurement & SAP Operations
  • Create, issue, and manage Purchase Orders (POs) for stock and non-stock items efficiently and accurately within SAP.
  • Process incoming orders and execute 'building assemblies' directly in the SAP system.
  • Maintain SAP master data integrity, ensuring accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), item master details, drawing registers, and electronic file archives align with engineering specifications.
  • Track order status across the supply chain, maintaining visibility on scheduled deliveries and proactively chasing delayed shipments.
  • Resolve purchase invoice queries efficiently in coordination with Accounts Payable, Team Leader, and suppliers.
  • 2. Inventory & Stock Control
  • Monitor stock quantities, establish optimal reorder points, and advise the Purchasing Team Leader on replenishment needs.
  • Maintain an organized stockroom environment, managing proper receipt, assignment, and issuing of inventory/raw materials to the shop floor.
  • Support the Return Merchandise Authorisation (RMA) process on an assistance level, helping to log and track stock components used in product repairs as required.
  • Conduct regular stock counts and perform monthly tracking and logging of scrap stock in SAP.
  • 3. Continuous Improvement & Professional Development
  • Identify potential supply chain risks, highlight areas for operational efficiency, and bring recommendations to the Buyer Team Leader.
  • Participate in annual performance reviews, training courses, and continuous professional development.
  • Attend team/operational meetings and industry trade shows/exhibitions as required.
  • Core Competencies
  • Highly organised, accountable, and self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proactive problem-solver with high attention to detail, particularly regarding system data accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with suppliers, internal teams, and cross-departmental stakeholders.
  • Flexible attitude and professional presentation.
  • Technical & Experience Requirements
  • Hands-on experience with SAP (ideally SAP By Design) in a procurement or inventory environment, including PO creation, stock adjustments and assembly processes.
  • Prior experience as a Buyer or Assistant Buyer in a manufacturing or technical environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access).
  • Solid understanding of BOMs (Bills of Materials) and technical drawing registers.
