Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Estimator / Quantity Surveyor role based in Uckfield. The role involves preparing detailed cost estimates for brickwork, blockwork, and scaffolding projects, including material, labour, and subcontractor costs. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing drawings and specifications, measuring and quantifying works, preparing tenders, and supporting negotiations with clients and suppliers. The Estimator / Quantity Surveyor will track project costs, manage valuations, variations, and payment applications, and help ensure projects remain within budget while meeting quality and safety standards. The role also requires close collaboration with site teams, project managers, and commercial staff to provide accurate financial reporting and support informed decision-making.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in estimating or quantity surveying within construction, ideally with brickwork and blockwork.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities, with solid numeracy and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with estimating and quantity surveying software, spreadsheets, and general IT tools used for measurement, pricing, and reporting.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with site teams, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tenders and projects simultaneously to deadlines.
- Sound understanding of construction methods, health and safety principles, and commercial practices such as valuations and variations.
- Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites within Sussex, Kent, and Surrey as required.
