Department Overview
The Medical Affairs team serves as the bridge between Pfizer and the medical community, ensuring the accurate communication of information about medicines and vaccines. Their responsibilities include upholding scientific integrity, supporting clinical research, providing expert advice on compliance, and facilitating the safe and effective use of Pfizer products, to ultimately improve patient outcomes.
With a patient advocacy perspective, the team works to ensure the patient voice is heard and included in Pfizer's medicine and vaccine development, focussing on meeting the needs of healthcare professionals and patients, aligning with Pfizer's mission of 'Breakthroughs that change patientsβ lives'. The efforts emphasise meaningful patient involvement and better collaboration with patients and patient organisations.
Colleagues work across Pfizer to promote patient-centric values, enhancing Pfizer's leadership in patient engagement and partnerships. Pfizer provides you with the opportunity to work with experts in the pharmaceutical industry and has a wealth of opportunities available across a variety of departments.
Through working within the Medical Affairs and Medical Operations teams you can look forward to developing critical academic and business skills and being a valued team player. These skills will include:
- Communication through liaising with colleagues and external stakeholders and giving presentations to immediate and wider teams.
- Multi-tasking through working on a variety of projects.
- Leadership by co-designing and implementing specific projects.
Other responsibilities will include:
- Involvement in projects involving patients across Pfizer working with other UK cross-functional teams where appropriate.
- Upskilling colleagues in best practice.
- Assisting the team with key projects and deliverables aligned with the operating plans, communication and implementation strategies, and developing website and social media content.
- Process review and simplification projects across Medical Affairs.
You will have opportunities to work with people from other departments including fellow undergraduate trainees, building networks, and understanding how different parts of the business operate. This will involve collaborating with other trainees and colleagues in various projects. You will also get opportunities to attend conferences, meetings, and training in relation to the projects that you work on as well as participating in Pfizer schemes such as volunteering.
Placements will start on 1st September 2026 and will run for 12 months.
PERSON SPECIFICATION

- Completing placement as part of University Degree either through Year In Industry/Industrial Placement or Gap Year.
- On target for a Degree Classification in a health or science related field.
- Knowledgeable and passionate about patient involvement and the benefits of this.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Prioritisation skills to meet deadlines.
- Able and self-assured to challenge the status quo.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Ability to use initiative and work effectively in a team environment.
