Pfizer is committed to developing new talent across the commercial business with a Graduate Future Leaders programme focused on developing key knowledge, skills and behaviours in the marketing and sales of medicines and vaccines across the UK. The Graduate scheme is a two-year programme open to eligible Pfizer early careers students (Undergraduates and Degree Apprentices) aspiring to a career in commercial leadership within our organisation. The programme offers training, professional coaching and mentorship from senior leaders, with a range of experiences across 3 key placements:

  • 9 months developing marketing skills within a specific business;
  • 9 months in the field within the UK acquiring the competencies needed for selling within a highly regulated environment;
  • An additional 6 months are spent in between working within a different business area to expand commercial experience.

Rotation 1 – Marketing: Working within a marketing team leading key strategic initiatives whilst applying marketing, analytical and data-driven skills to build evidence-based business recommendations; accountable for supporting brand-related marketing activities and growth opportunities for assigned products in the UK. Graduates are expected to interpret data, KPIs and performance metrics, leverage AI-enabled tools to support productivity and insight generation and engage with external stakeholders and market research to inform strategy.

Rotation 2 – Functional Business Area: To be determined by business needs, but areas could include Digital Innovation; Finance; Access and Value; Policy and Public Affairs or Commercial Portfolio.

Rotation 3 – Sales: Therapy Area Specialist with primary sales responsibilities within a specified region and territory conducted according to relevant code of conduct: develop brand and disease area knowledge; develop and demonstrate outstanding selling skills underpinned by data-driven customer segmentation and targeting; develop and build external relationships; build and deliver exceptional local business account plans aligned to business strategy; and use performance metrics to track progress and drive continuous improvement.

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Rotation 1: Report to a Commercial Lead working as an active member of a brand/portfolio cross-functional team. Has a strong relationship with internal stakeholders in-country and above country.
  • Rotation 2: Report to a Commercial Lead in assigned functional area.
  • Rotation 3: Report to a Senior Field Leader working within specified region and territory.

Programme: Senior Leader Mentor supporting across the entire 2-year programme.

1st ROTATION – MARKETING – 9 MONTHS

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct all activities and make all decisions in accordance with Company policies & SOPs, Pfizer Values, and global regulatory guidelines (including cGMP/cGLP/cGCP/ABPI).
  • Support development of Country Brand/Portfolio Plan, using data, analytics and market insights to underpin strategic recommendations.
  • Manage execution of brand strategy in country – contribute to execution of key brand programmes, prioritising the highest-impact activities to maximise commercial outcomes.
  • Maximise impact of marketing activities through optimal channel mix, including newer and digital channels, leveraging AI-enabled tools to enhance productivity and effectiveness.
  • Meet/exceed local revenue targets and track performance against KPIs, using results to inform continuous improvement.

Future Leadership

  • Contribute to in-country cross-functional team, including coordinating and supporting the activities of members of the team as appropriate to achieve success, demonstrating influence without authority.
  • Develop relations with key internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, recognising external engagement as a critical input to insight generation and strategy development.
  • Develop key transferable business skills through a range of learning experiences; Tutor-Led, Peer-Led and on-the-job experiences.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and willingness to explore and adopt AI tools and modern ways of working to support day-to-day effectiveness and innovation.
  • Prioritise and manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, demonstrating agility in responding to changing business needs and refocusing effort on the highest-value activities.

Financial Planning

  • Manage the planning, spending and controlling of budgets agreed for own areas of responsibility and developing regular forecast updates to aid financial planning.
  • Input into country sales and forecasting, including monitoring performance vs KPIs and interpreting data to generate actionable insights.
  • Provide country input into overall European forecasts, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Build a working knowledge of Pfizer's Budgeting and Operating Plan cycle.

Customer Engagement & Insight

  • Collaborate with customer-facing teams to help drive alignment with overall brand/portfolio strategy and incorporation of market feedback.
  • Contribute to the collection and understanding of customer and patient insights for inclusion into the local and European business plans, drawing on both internal data and external engagement including market research.
  • Work with the cross-functional team including customer-facing colleagues, account managers and medical for customer/digital activities/programmes to support strong external stakeholder and customer engagement.
  • Engage directly with healthcare professionals and external stakeholders as appropriate to build first-hand understanding of customer needs, market dynamics and competitive environment.
  • Translate data, insights and performance metrics into clear, evidence-based recommendations that support brand and portfolio decision-making.

2nd ROTATION – FUNCTIONAL BUSINESS AREA – 6 MONTHS

Functional Business area will be determined during Rotation 1. Previous placements have included Finance; Access and Value; Policy and Public Affairs; and Commercial Portfolio. Placement includes defined project work and deliverables within a 6-month period.

3rd ROTATION – SALES – 9 MONTHS

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct all activities and make all decisions in accordance with Company policies & SOPs, Pfizer Values, and global regulatory guidelines (including cGMP/cGLP/cGCP/ABPI).
  • Develop and manage customer relationships, generating and leveraging customer insights and facilitating the implementation of effective programmes and solutions which meet a shared agenda and create better treatment for patients.
  • Ensure products are appropriately prescribed and positioned across the local treatment pathway.
  • Feedback to Team, Head Office and Manager about relevant challenges or opportunities to ensure appropriate action can be taken.
  • Use data, analytics and performance metrics to deepen understanding of the disease area, customer landscape and competitive environment.

Selling Skills / Driving Growth

  • Promote products to designated customers in order to achieve local business plan objectives and sales targets.
  • Sell the clinical benefits and value of the portfolio to key healthcare professionals and gain product endorsement to generate sales.
  • Be responsible for achieving defined target customer coverage and frequency, informed by customer segmentation and prioritisation of high-value customer segments.
  • Identify, develop and mobilise brand, disease area and payor advocates.
  • Deliver relevant and tailored value messaging to best engage customers to maximise brand potential.
  • Manage the execution and implementation of therapy area projects and brand programmes as agreed in the local business or account plan.
  • Understand and work from priority customer segments and target lists, aligning sales activity to overall business strategy and territory objectives.
  • Track sales performance against objectives and KPIs, using data and results to inform continuous improvement and refine territory approach.

Business Planning

  • Diagnosis of situation of territory (e.g., local environment, political situation, ICBs/accounts, local initiatives) leading to the creation and implementation of Local Health Economy Plans and individual action plans to achieve business objectives.
  • Use of relevant planning and delivery tools – including data analytics and AI-enabled solutions where appropriate – to support effective team planning and implementation.
  • Take a key role in territory team planning and ensure this links to overall account plan.
  • Ensure all Pfizer resources (e.g., functions, channels/digital) are used wherever appropriate.
  • Be responsible for excellence in implementation, with a clear focus on prioritising the highest-impact activities and demonstrating agility in response to changing business needs.

Collaboration

  • Liaise with territory team members to share information, motivate, and support team members to ensure the Local Health Economy Plan is delivered.
  • Regular and effective communication with all territory colleagues, including those who work in other role types across Pfizer.
  • Excellence in cross-functional team working.

Administration

  • Ensure territory and administrative systems/processes are maintained and updated to ensure accurate recording of territory and customers at all times.
  • Record all interactions and initiatives in the appropriate Pfizer electronic customer management system.
  • Full adherence to all Pfizer standards, SOPs, and compliance procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluency in English language.
  • University degree (business administration or scientific degree preferred).
  • Demonstrates a fundamental understanding of basic sales and marketing skills.
  • Must have excellent organisation skills/ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • KPI setting and measurement mindset; ability to define meaningful KPIs with a clear line of sight from strategic initiatives to measurable business outcomes – experience interpreting KPIs or performance metrics is desirable.
  • Track record of working collaboratively with others across functions.
  • Full clean driving license – ability to drive in the UK.
  • ABPI exams passed during first year.

LOCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Office location – Marketing rotation and Business Function Rotation (Walton Oaks).
  • Field location within the UK – territory sales role.
  • Travel ability.
