Overview of Role
As the Finished Goods Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing finished good products, ensuring product availability, maintaining optimal inventory levels, and supporting customer demand. This role involves managing supplier relationships, negotiating costs and terms, monitoring stock levels, and working closely with various teams to maintain an efficient supply chain and overall business success.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage the procurement of finished goods in line with forecasted demand and inventory requirements.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, ensuring quality, cost, and service expectations are consistently achieved.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and commercial terms to deliver best value for the business.
- Monitor stock levels and place purchase orders to maintain optimum inventory while minimising excess stock and shortages.
- Work closely with Supply Chain, Planning, Sales, and Operations teams to ensure product availability and continuity of supply.
- Monitor supplier performance and proactively resolve supply issues, delays, and shortages.
- Review demand forecasts and market trends to support effective purchasing decisions.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve processes, and optimise the supplier base.
- Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, and system data.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications required
Essential
- Procurement or buying experience within an FMCG environment.
- Strong supplier relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent negotiation, influencing, and commercial decision-making capabilities.
- Experience working cross-functionally with planning, technical, production, and operational teams.
- Strong inventory management and stock control knowledge.
- Sound commercial acumen with experience managing budgets and costs.
- Working knowledge of MRP systems and procurement reporting/analytics tools.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Effective problem-solving and risk management skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Technical understanding of products and procurement processes within FMCG.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
