Job Description
A Lead Web Developer is responsible for building and scaling high-performance, web applications and platform services. This role combines hands-on engineering, technical leadership, and people management, with responsibility for delivering scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems that support real-time and data-intensive workflows. You will work closely with Product, Architecture, and Operations teams to define technical direction, drive delivery, and ensure engineering excellence across distributed teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Own the architecture and design of scalable, high-availability web platforms and services.
- Lead design discussions, perform architectural reviews, and make key technical decisions.
- Define and enforce engineering standards, coding practices, and system design principles.
- Drive adoption of modern architectures, including microservices and event-driven systems.
- Platform Engineering & Delivery
- Design and build web applications using modern frameworks (Angular/React) and backend services (Node.js or similar).
- Develop and scale distributed systems with a focus on performance, resilience, and observability.
- Define API strategies and integration patterns across services and external systems.
- Ensure robust CI/CD pipelines and high-quality release processes.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing distributed engineering team.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance across all levels of experience.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management.
- Execution & Stakeholder Management
- Own delivery timelines, technical risks, and quality outcomes across projects.
- Work closely with Product Managers, QA, and Operations to align on priorities and execution.
- Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks impacting delivery.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Evaluate new technologies, tools, and architectural approaches.
- Drive improvements in engineering processes, system performance, and developer productivity.

Skills & Qualifications
- Essential
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience in full-stack web development.
- Proven expertise in modern frontend frameworks (Angular and/or React).
- Strong backend development experience (Node.js or similar technologies).
- Demonstrated experience designing and building scalable, distributed systems.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and message brokers (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).
- Strong understanding of software design patterns and engineering best practices.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience managing distributed teams.

- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or similar) and containerised deployments.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and microservices architectures.
- Experience with databases including PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle, and NoSQL (e.g., Cassandra).
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Experience with observability tools (logging, monitoring, tracing).
- Knowledge of additional backend technologies (e.g., .NET/C#).
