We are actively seeking an ambitious, sharp-minded Bunker Trader to join our dynamic team in our Rotterdam, Netherlands office. This role is for a commercial self-starter ready to help shape the future of marine energy supply across the ARA region and beyond.

As a Bunker Trader, you will be responsible for formulating and implementing effective sales strategies and promotion plans to further support our Bunker business generate profit within the marine fuel market. This includes trading marine fuels such as VLSFO, ULSFO, HSFO, and biofuels, building and maintaining excellent relationships with customers and intermediaries, analysing market trends, risk exposure and competitor activity, coordinating with internal teams for efficient fuel delivery, managing risks associated with market volatility and credit exposure, and working with our Back Office teams to ensure accurate documentation and timely payment follow-up.

  • Pioneering the Green Transition: We are aggressively expanding our portfolio of sustainable marine fuels, including advanced biofuels (ISCC certified) and LNG. Our ambition for 2026 is to significantly increase the percentage of non-conventional fuels in our total traded volume.
  • Solid ARA Presence: Continue building on our successful launch of physical supply operations in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region, we aim to become a top-tier supplier by market share in the next 18 months, leveraging our state-of-the-art storage and blending capacity.
  • Integrated Global Powerhouse: You will leverage our unique advantage: access to PetroChina’s global, integrated value chain, from our own refineries to our extensive logistics network in China, Singapore, Houston, Lavera, and the Middle East. We offer reliability and scale that competitors struggle to match.
  • Digital Leadership: We are investing heavily in trading technology and electronic bunker delivery notes to drive efficiency and transparency in a traditional market sector.

Therefore, we require an experienced Bunker Trader / Bunker Sales Manager with demonstrable experience maximising revenue generation for a Bunker business ideally within a trading house environment. The role is available immediately and there is a massive opportunity to make an immediate and tangible impact in a highly respected and well-established global oil and energy trading company. Key Responsibilities:

  • Commercial Execution: Executing high-value deals across conventional (VLSFO, HSFO) and alternative fuels.
  • Strategic Growth: Cultivating and expanding a robust client base of ship owners, charterers, and operators, transforming market intelligence into tangible P&L results.
  • Operational Excellence: Seamlessly coordinating the physical delivery of fuel, managing complex logistics and mitigating operational risks.
  • Market Insight: Acting as the eyes and ears of the market, identifying new trading opportunities and sustainable supply partnerships.

What we’re looking for / Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Proven bunker trade experience & Network: demonstrable success in bunker trading is a must preferably in the ARA market, with an established network of industry contacts.
  • Commercial Acumen: A sharp understanding of commodity markets, risk management (credit and price volatility), and supply chain dynamics.
  • B2B Experience: excellent sales and relationship building experience. Must understand fuel grades and bonus if you have alternative fuel experience.
  • Ambitious & Resilient: A self-starter with the persistence to open new accounts and close complex deals.
  • Collaborative: A team player who can coordinate seamlessly across our global operations teams including solid knowledge on port operation is highly advantageous.
  • Compliance: Good knowledge in ISM regulations, SFC rules and financial services activities (Securities and Future Trading) is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong negotiation, analytical, and numerical skills.
  • Attributes: Self-motivated, commercially astute, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Education: A university degree in business or a related field is beneficial.
  • Language: Ability to communicate in Dutch to a professional level is highly advantageous.

Please note: This is a full-time, permanent position and the job can be based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The role will require you to be office based 5 days per week and will include some travel.

This role offers a competitive salary (commensurate with experience), plus a comprehensive benefits package including Insurance coverage; Health Insurance, Pension Scheme, Gym Allowance, Commuting Allowance, 8% annual holiday allowance and 28 vacation days (excluding bank holidays), discretionary performance related bonus and more.
