The Subcontracts Manager will lead, oversee and manage all assigned subcontract activities for Asset Solutions business in accordance with the Supply Chain Management functional objectives and will ensure effective processes, procedures and resources are deployed. Reporting to the Subcontracts Manager – Asset Solutions, this position will be required to work on their own initiative dealing directly with the business line stakeholders, to plan, tender and manage all subcontracts activities in line with Company best practice.

This position will be responsible and accountable for the leadership, performance and management of a team comprising of Subcontracts Specialists, Senior Subcontracts Specialists and Contract Assistants. This position will be responsible and accountable for the planning and delivery of all subcontract activities required in support of tendering, pre-FEED, FEED and project execution activities within the business line. This is a dual role to provide strategic management in support of subcontract activities and hands-on delivery and implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a subcontracts team ensuring all activities are carried out fully in accordance with Company’s policies, processes and procedures across a portfolio of projects and clients.
  • Manage the delivery of the full subcontract activity cycle from requirement identification through to contract close-out (sourcing, pre-qualification, supplier qualification, tender process, negotiation, award, post-order management and contract close-out).
  • Maintain and monitor subcontract governance, identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement and risk mitigation.
  • Lead, manage and monitor the development and implementation of subcontracting strategy papers.
  • Lead, manage and monitor asset transitions, ensuring timely development and negotiation of back-to-back subcontracts.
  • Drive the development and implementation of standardised ITT and contract templates to enhance efficiency and consistency.
  • Provide oversight and direction to the team in preparing, issuing, and managing Invitation to Tender (ITT) packages, including commercial evaluations and recommendations for award.
  • Review and approve contract drafts, negotiations, and amendments prepared by the subcontracts team.
  • Ensure robust contract change control processes are followed, including logging and approval of all amendments and variations.
  • Prepare & review contract approval paperwork (SSJ, RRC, BURRC and Tender Board paperwork) in support of ITT’s and awards.
  • Lead and manage the negotiations on contract terms with suppliers in line with Company Best Practice and lead justifications for any significant exceptions for senior management approval.
  • Ensure all subcontracts include appropriate back-to-back coverage with client terms, and that any exceptions are approved in line with the DoA.
  • Ensure team compliance with company processes, governance, and SCM procedures in all subcontracting activities.
  • Drive and monitor subcontractor performance management plans, including the execution of formal performance reviews.
  • Lead, manage and monitor subcontracting strategy and planning in support of asset transitions and input into the broader SCM Transition Plan.
  • Lead, manage and monitor resolution of subcontractor disputes and claims in coordination with legal and commercial teams, ensuring timely and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Contribute to and promote a performance culture within the subcontracts team, improving focus on performance and value creation.
  • Build and lead a performance driven subcontracts team, promoting accountability, development, and operational excellence in support of business objectives.
  • Actively manage team workload, priorities, and succession planning to ensure effective coverage across projects and regions.

Essential Qualifications And Skills:

  • Legal bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience of building, developing, leading and managing a subcontract is essential.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.
  • Few years of experience of onshore and offshore contract terms is preferred.
  • Experience in drafting contracts in differing commercial and contractual arrangements.
  • Proven track record of end-to-end subcontracts execution for onshore and offshore services.
  • Extensive end to end subcontracts experience within project and operational delivery.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and execute subcontracting strategies that align with overall project and business objectives.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of achieving favourable commercial and contractual outcomes with subcontractors.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with subcontractors, clients and internal stakeholders to drive performance, compliance, and collaboration.
  • Assertive and persuasive communicator who can influence outcomes and defend commercial positions while maintaining professionalism.
  • Highly motivated, results-driven, and proactive, with a focus on delivering against project schedules and commercial targets.
  • Experienced leader with the ability to mentor, develop, and motivate subcontracts or supply chain teams in high-pressure environments.
  • Adaptable and flexible, with the capability to work within dynamic project environments and respond effectively to client and company requirements.
  • Strong ethical standards and integrity in all subcontracting activities, promoting transparency and compliance with governance frameworks.
  • Committed to health, safety, and environmental leadership, demonstrating a proactive approach to risk management within the subcontractor base.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and experienced in procurement/subcontracting systems such as Oracle, SAP, or equivalent ERP platforms.
