Workshop Technician in Carnforth

MOSS is looking for a Workshop Technician to join the team. We are recruiting an outstanding candidate who is either highly experienced in a mechanical workshop environment or has the capability to progress efficiently through MOSS' Training and Competency System to develop into this role.

Main Tasks

• Prepare, assemble, inspect and maintain portable machining equipment, including flange facers, milling machines, boring bars, drilling equipment and associated tooling.
• Operate workshop machinery and equipment safely and effectively to manufacture, modify or repair tooling, fixtures and equipment components.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and machining specifications.
• Manufacture and modify components required to support operational projects and workshop activities.
• Conduct pre-mobilisation inspections and function testing of equipment to ensure readiness for deployment.
• Carry out preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs on portable machining equipment and workshop assets.
• Inspect completed work using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, bore gauges and dial indicators.
• Maintain workshop tools, equipment and work areas to a high standard of cleanliness and organisation.
• Assist with the loading, unloading, preparation and mobilisation of equipment for site operations.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inspections, workshop documentation, and stock control. Utilise MOSS's Asset Infinity asset management system to maintain full control of equipment locations, service and inspection schedules, calibration requirements, and asset status, ensuring all MOSS equipment remains compliant, traceable, and ready for deployment.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop and contribute to the development of workshop procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out all workshop activities in accordance with MOSS policies, procedures and Health & Safety requirements.
• Ensure equipment is maintained, calibrated (where applicable) and ready for operational deployment.
• Support the efficient operation of the workshop through effective planning, organisation and housekeeping.
• Work in accordance with the company's quality management system and statutory obligations.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail at all times.
• Support colleagues and operational teams as required to ensure project success.
• Demonstrate a willingness to broaden technical skills and undertake additional training where required.

Candidate Requirements

• Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.
• Strong mechanical background with experience working in an engineering workshop environment.
• Experience operating workshop machinery and using precision measuring equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Knowledge and understanding of mechanical assembly, maintenance and machining practices.
• Ability to work using own initiative with minimal supervision.
• Good problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach to work.
• Well organised, methodical and able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Personable, confident and professional with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• A strong commitment to health, safety and quality standards.

Desirable Requirements

• CNC machining experience.
• Manual milling, turning or boring experience.
• Welding and fabrication knowledge.
• Experience maintaining hydraulic, pneumatic or portable machining equipment.
• Forklift Truck Licence.
• Overhead Crane Training.
• Experience within the oil & gas, power generation, marine or heavy engineering sectors.
