petplace is an independent, family-run pet retailer with five stores across North Wales and a growing online shop. We’re looking for a sharp, well-organised Personal Assistant to support our Directors - someone who can keep busy people on track and get properly stuck into the numbers behind the business.

This is a real right-hand role. As well as classic PA duties, you’ll be pulling together reports, making sense of figures and giving the directors the information they need to run the business well. If you’re numerate, tidy-minded, quick with software and genuinely curious about retail and pets, you’ll do well here.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing day-to-day PA support to the Director - diaries, inboxes, meetings, travel and follow-ups.
  • Preparing management reports and pulling numbers together into clear, accurate summaries.
  • Helping review profit & loss accounts and other financial reports, and flagging anything that stands out.
  • Getting to grips with our systems - WinRetail (our EPOS and back-office system), Shopify and Xero - to gather and present information.
  • Taking minutes, tracking actions and chasing them to completion.
  • Acting as a point of contact between the directors, our five stores and the wider team.
  • Handling confidential information with discretion at all times.
  • Taking on projects and ad-hoc tasks as the business needs - no two weeks are quite the same.

What we’re looking for:

  • A strong head for numbers - confident producing reports and comfortable reading a P&L.
  • Excellent IT skills, especially spreadsheets, and the confidence to pick up new software quickly.
  • Clear, professional written and spoken communication.
  • Discretion and sound judgement when handling sensitive information.
  • A genuine desire to understand the pet trade and how our business works.
  • A full UK driving licence, as the role involves visits to our stores.

Nice to have:

  • Previous PA, office management or bookkeeping experience.
  • Familiarity with EPOS/retail systems, Shopify or Xero.
  • An interest in pets and animals - always a plus around here.

What we offer:

  • A varied, hands-on role at the heart of the business, working directly with the directors.
  • The chance to see how an independent retailer really runs, and to grow with us.
  • A friendly, down-to-earth team and a chance to put your stamp on what we do.
  • Salary and benefits to be discussed - dependent on experience.

How to apply:

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you. Send your CV and a short covering note telling us why you’re a good fit. petplace is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from everyone.
