What you will do: The Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Specialist facilitates and obtains appropriate physician documentation for any clinical conditions or procedures to support the appropriate severity of illness, expected risk of mortality, and complexity of care of the patient. The CDI Specialist exhibits sufficient knowledge of clinical documentation requirements, Diagnosis Related Group assignment, and clinical conditions of procedures. The CDI Specialist educates members of the patient care team regarding documentation guidelines, including physicians, allied health practitioners, nursing, and case management.

Required Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.

Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Required Skills: Basic computer and keyboarding.

Preferred Skills: Meditech Electronic Medical Record.

Required Licensure / Registration / Certification: Registered Nurse, Licensed in the state of Texas or Compact State, BLS (if not currently BLS certified, must complete within two months of employment, and thereafter renew within one month of the recommended date of renewal).

Preferred Licensure / Registration / Certification: Certification in Case Management and/or Certification in Clinical Documentation.

Required Experience: Three years acute care nursing experience.

Preferred Experience: Case Management experience.
